Here is the repo... https://github.com/xbmc/repo-scrapers/tree/leia/metadata.universal

Correct.

Probably not the best way to go.
For this movie as an example... https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4731148/
I would want to see the title Attraction
The original title Prityazhenie means nothing to me.

or https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0299977/
with the title Ying xiong

Yeah, for many movies my approach would be fine but there are some which have been renamed.  I always use the current name, which is c00.  Let me see what I find.  I really don't like screen scraping because of the continual UI changes on sites.

I would love to have the option to download movie poster in the original language.
Like with the movie titles (Preferred Title Language: Keep Original) it should give the option Preferred Poster Language: Keep Original.

I agree, It would be very nice.

Same issue here. I noticed the change in behaviour as I updated LibreELEC featuring Kodi 20.x. I thought it might have been a bug in LibreELEC since the current version is so unstable, but it seems the bug lies within Universal Movie Scrapper.

As the others, I can readily search for a movie by its title, but it isn't displayed in the list. As I add new movies, I now have a mismatched collection of movies with title displayed along with single posters and plots without a title.

One workaround: scrape for all titles in English.

Downside: I would much prefer to scrape titles in the 4 languages I understand rather than English-only.

This one caught me with my pants down.. I've been using a 3rd party scraper Kodi compatible for the most part Recently was astonished to see no titles in a Kodi few scrapes, fixed them up with 'Metadata Editor' add-on, didn't think too much about it until I happened to update metadata for a smart playlist and noticed that a bunch of titles were blanks.. eeps, blaming new software; I finally found this thread. One hopes for a fix, but as long as you know about it, the work-rounds are mentioned in this thread.

I don't really see what is your issue here. Are you using themoviedb.org as search engine?

RE: Universal Movie Scraper - dmxclass - 2023-09-04

Is there a standalone linux version available of UMS ?

*FEATURE REQUEST*
Hello, please would it be possible to add support for dual titles (lets say primary and secondary, where both of them could be configured to a different preferred language)? Thanks to this could one have titles composed of lets say original language and local translation. For example when using original language for primary title and German language for secondary, final title could look like this: Catch Me If You Can (Mein Leben auf der Flucht). This would allow for easier navigation and search in library (as for some movies are local translations more memorable and vice versa). Anyway thanks for great work!

RE: Universal Movie Scraper - Jackanory - 2023-12-04

If/when I upgrade from 18.6 on windows 11 I will recheck and file a proper report, but I've recently noticed:

Whenever I refresh a movie from within, say, a set or playlist, my assigned movie set is now removed from that movie. If I refresh from within the standard genre/title/year listings, my assigned sets are preserved. For example, if I go into my 'Best Picture' set and select 'My Fair Lady' info then refresh, after said refresh, My Fair Lady will no longer be in the Best Picture list. I then have to go to the 1964 listing and re-add my set. I'm trying to learn not to do this, but ...

I'm using UMS pointing to IMDB and have the 'retrieve sets from TMS' unchecked, as I prefer to concoct my own!

As I said, I'll file a report 'when' I upgrade, but thought I'd throw a heads-up out there in case it has gone unnoticed in current versions.

That is expected.
The "Best Picture" set is a collection you created. It does not exist at the scraper site. So when you Refresh your movie, you are rescraping the movie, which does not include the set information you created.
The setting you unchecked won't preserve your existing set information, as that is being cleared due to the rescraping.
It's not a bug.
Why are you refreshing?

First, some words need to be eaten. I've used sets for a decade now, and set persistence was something I had come to expect. My thoughts are pointing at that 'behind-the-scenes' update that arrived a year ago, during some functional discussions that I observed at that time. However, I should probably be pointing such thoughts at my brain, as 71 years have played heck with memory functionality. I have no excuse for why I didn't double check, besides my age incrementing yesterday -- not a good excuse for a retired software engineer! Yes, sets are not preserved when refreshing from year or genre lists, my apologies.

My memory persists in thinking that sets were preserved in some earlier version; I shall strive to purge it! (Or, maybe, one day, I'll request that set information be preserved in certain situations! ;o)

As for why I'm refreshing: In January, after the discussions, and some changes were made to other aspects, I decided to scrape _some_ movies with the TMDB scraper -- just to see. Mistakes were made, a Yes was clicked when it should'nt've been; frantic clicks on the cancel button were ignored by the system, and each and every one of my movies was re-scraped. I was not a fan of the results! Many of my movies are quite old and obscure, and TMDB's info isn't adequate for them -- especially when it comes to genres! After I reverted to the Universal scraper with IMDB, I thought it best not to re-scrape my entire collection again; mostly because of the issues with we had with IMDB's API at the time. So, when the mood hits me, I'll refresh some of those obscure movies, and nod in satisfaction as harmony is restored!

Now ... where's my Bath chair? Wink

Install the backup addon so you have something to fall back on in the future.

Oh, what a pain.
You could use the method Hitcher proposed, but my preference is definitely for regular exports to nfo files. You preserve all your data in the nfo files and you can just rescan the nfo files after you make a blooper, and all fixed.

I thought about a good solution to this - (programmers please?)

When choosing "Prefered title language": "Keep Original" - there should be an option:
Keep original title only when in following languages: [language checkboxes]
E.g. if you speak English, German and Spanish - the original titles in these languages are kept. Others titles will show in English.

This could work for both IMDB and TMDb.

RE: Universal Movie Scraper - voot - 2023-12-20

Is it only me that the download of Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic ratings has stopped working, or is it a general problem?
