Sorry, wasn't aware that there is a different setting for search engine, will check it.
Thanks.

Hi,
I have never posted before and love using the XBMC program but am having problems with the movie scrapper as of a few weeks ago. I have read some of the post and enabled the Universal Movie Scrapper now but it still comes up with "Unable to connect to remote server, would you like to continue?" This is when it first starts scanning the movies using The Movie Database. I have even uninstalled and re-installed the program which is Frodo V12.2. I even installed it on my laptop to see if there were any other issues but it works fine. Please any help would be greatly appreciated and if I missed this somewhere in this forum. I am sorry!

Thank you for your help!

Has anyone else's trailers stopped scraping recently? Tried rolling back to a previous version of ums but no luck!

I am seeing the same issue today with IMDB as source.

If only anyone of you would share what source are you using for trailers.

I'd originally been using only YouTube, but when I encountered the prob I tried all the sources and still had nothing. I deleted and readded my library to see if that changed anything, but now none I my movies have trailers.

Sometimes Universal Movie Scrape is not scraping the correct titles.
I set it to scrape German titles, but here are some problems:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1179069/
For this movie it scrapes "6 Souls", although this is set as "USA (imdb display title) (English title)", while the correct German title would be "Shelter".

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1602620/
For this one it scrapes "Amour", although "Liebe Austria (dubbed version) / Germany (dubbed version)" is the correct one.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0328828/
This is probably the same bug as "Amour", it scrapes "American Wedding" although a German title is given.

RE: [Release] Universal Movie Scraper - fogcity - 2013-06-01

I've installed the Universal Movie Scraper and re-scanned my library but I don't see any rotten tomatoes ratings on any movies?

Actually I don't see the word "rating" anywhere in the add-on settings. Is that normal?

In fact I can only see the words "Rotten Tomatoes" under "Get Plot From" and "Get Outline From" settings.

I expected that this add-on would have an actual option labeled "Get Ratings From" and one of the choices would be Rotten Tomatoes.... no?

UPDATE: once i changed my XBMC skin to reFocus i was able to see and change the ratings setting to Rotten Tomatoes.

Using youtube here (but it never downloads from youtube, I have to search for it manually...)

RE: [Release] Universal Movie Scraper - fogcity - 2013-06-04

It appears Universal Movie Scraper doesn't play well with viMediaManager, at least with regard to Rotten Tomatoes ratings.

viMediaManager creates NFO files with this tag:

Code:
<tomatocriticsscore>85</tomatocriticsscore>

but it also creates this tag in the same file:

Code:
<rating>7.2</rating>

Now, I understand that by default the RATING tag should supersede all others when you're scraping and you find a local NFO file and you need a rating.

BUT if the rating preference in UMS has been set to "Rotten Tomatoes" then it seems like you should be looking first for a TOMATOCRITICSSCORE tag, and only resorting to the RATING tag if necessary.

Any chance of this actually happening?

LOL, no. TOMATOCRITICSSCORE is not something XBMC knows.

OK then, what is the recommended way to provide rotten tomatoes ratings to the UMS via NFO files?

RE: [Release] Universal Movie Scraper - olympia - 2013-06-04

If you have valid NFO file next to the media file, then the scraper (UMS or whatever else is set on the source) doesn't get activated at all. In this case XBMC Core is importing the NFO. The scraper is only an addon, it has nothing to do, i.e. not involved in NFO imports.
Probably 'viMediaManager' is saving rotten tomatoes ratings into TOMATOCRITICSSCORE for some other application because it is simply not XBMC compatible.

Other than that, reading your post in the thread of 'viMediaManager', I doubt how it can have better movie recognition. An example would be nice what viMediaManager recognize correctly while UMS doesn't.

Ah ok that explains it, thanks. If I use viMM, it's solely responsible for proper tagging of movie ratings.

Example of where UMM does a worse job than viMM:

UMM sees this folder:
Guard, The (2011)
as a different movie:
Guard The House!
but viMM gets it right.

Probably viMM uses the search engine of themoviedb.org because IMDb doesn't give a good result for this movie. (you can switch to this search engine in UMS as well).
