Intel announces Ivy Bridge desktop and mobile CPUs - bluray - 2012-04-27

After I mentioned AMD APU last year, it spread out as big as wildfire in this forum. I bet that they haven't see these new kids on the block yet. It's the new super low TDP powerhouse by Intel........

Intel announces Ivy Bridge desktop and mobile CPUs

AMD will still be the best bang-4-the-buck... HD4000 still cannot compete with AMD's A6/A8 built-in GPUs -- and the HD4000 is only available on higher-end IBs which are multiples more expensive than the A6/A8s

For a very low power consumption CPU with HD4000 and still can playback everything that HD6550D can playback, it should be fairly close race this time around....

This is where the new iVy Bridge sine- Benchmarks: Power Consumption

i agree with Livin,
AMD i believe will still be best bang for buck!
intel will certainly be pricier. well see.

Will both work equally well for XBMCBuntu? I am still in the planning stage for a HTPC build but I have a vague memory of reading the you would need to go Intel for the Linux builds?

Got the prices in my mailbox from newegg....

wow incredible expensive.......

I guess If you are a hardcore Intel fan who is going to multitask this is great!

But for HTPC I say AMD...... just my 2 cents....

I cannot stop staring at "Intel Core i5-3550 Ivy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo)".....after the Trinity and all iVy introduced to the market, the price will go down in 3rd quarter......Nod

RE: Intel announces Ivy Bridge desktop and mobile CPUs - eskro - 2012-04-29

that was to be expected, too expensive for HTPC use. no point.
for HTPC I say AMD too.....

I'm still considering it because I might turn my HTPC into my main pc in the near future when I move. Before I look into making the expensive purchase I was curious about its XBMC performance. Anyone have any ideas on how the 4000 would work?

If it work fine with the i3/i5 HD2000, it should be better with the HD4000........it'll be a very sweet HTPC!
