Looking for new GPU which is advised? - Razor_109 - 2012-06-09

Hello,

I'm currently in the market for a new graphics card, at this moment i have an Asus G210 card, working fine although just the basic deinterlacing, no HD audio and some weird problem in combination with Ubuntu and my Onkyo AVR that grumbles the screen prohibiting the use of HDMI-passtrough!

I'm looking for a new graphicscard, as passive one. I'm running my XBMC on Ubuntu, i watch live 1080i tv and would love some Hd Bitstreaming.

First of all, is Nvidia still the best way to go over Ati in Ubuntu? Which card is advised for my requirements? Asus GT520?

Thanks in advanced!

yes, stick to Nvidia if your going with Linux.

How is the GT520 for XBMC? Is it considered a very good choice? For both Windows AND Linux or just Linux?

It works w/ both Windows and Linux.......but this "ASUS ENGT430" is your best choice.....

I have been thinking about building something similar to the Zotac ZBOX ID80 -- at least with the motherboard specs -- D2700/GT520 and wondering how well it would work for XBMC before I invest in it. I would not be using the Zotac brand and I would be building it in my own case.

Sorry hijack this thread. I will start my own -- I'd been meaning to anyway.

If you want to watch live 1080i get the Nvidia GT430. I recently got a GT520 and I have been surprised that it has trouble with interlaced video that the GT430 handles easily.

Thanks for the advice, i'll go with the GT430 since deinterlacing for me is important!

Excellent choice...! If you have room in your case, you can go for the fanless in my post #4 or this "ZOTAC ZT-40606-20L"......

If you don't have room, this LP version "PNY VCGGT4301XPB" should work.....

Has anyone compared the temps of the above mentioned Asus and Zotac 430 passive? Which has the most effective cooling?

PS:
I am planning on building an HTPC w Xbmc (Linux) soon.
Have been doing some reading and came across the above link.

But, since I am new to all this (still defining basic terms), I am not sure how to summarize the the info presented in the above link.

Could someone more knowlegeble provide some perspective?

Cheers
