i see. All displays at their core are RGB correct? the way my tv works i think is if you label it PC it acts differently, I never really messed with it as it disables a lot of picture settings. i'll play around with it for fun but i understand what your saying now. just a needless step if what i said about all hdtvs being RGB at heart anyway

enable mode debugging in xorg.conf : Option "ModeDebug" "true"
and check Xorg.0.log. It will tell you available modes.

Hi FernetM, please see that log and explain what it means re 24p.

RE: Perfect playback of 23.976 fps possible with nVidia? - yanathin - 2012-09-30

So I read through this entire thread and am still very confused as to how to fix this problem, not to mention the link in the first post is now broken... Would anybody be able to let me know which of all these different settings are the way to go? I have a GTX 670 with 301.40 drivers hooked up to a Denon receiver and a JVC RS40 projector. What are all of the steps I need to take (both XBMC settings and Nvidia settings) to get perfectly smooth playback of 23.976 content? I'm so lost after reading all of this!

Edit: Just wanted to add that I'm using the current stable release of Eden on Windows 7 64-bit. It also looks like the latest drivers are 306.23, which I don't have installed.

Its not a 1080 panel as I said but it will take 1080p input. I want to know if it will do 24 hz which I dont think it will and if it wont, what are my options for optimal playback?

RE: Perfect playback of 23.976 fps possible with nVidia? - Hack_kid - 2012-09-30

it wont, just set it to 1360x768 @ 60htz and leave it

Following on from this, 24p at 60hz doesn't look too bad on this set. I have another issue though, the tv's native resolution is 1360 x 768 at which it looks best. however it wont do 50 hz at this res which I need it to do for live tv, it will do 50hz if i drop down to 1280 x 720 but I'd like to keep the higer res. Can I somehow add a 1360 x 768 50hz mode? Or if not how to get xbmc to switch res and hz for live tv?

Answer to original thread question? As a nVidia ION 1 device owner, yep, it totally is. Actually XBMC under Windows 7 with the right drivers (i.e. not the newest ones, they skip and drop frames all the time) will play almost everything smoothly, with quality deinterlacing of 480i/576i/1080i where needed. That "adjust display refresh rate to match video" option is a masterstroke.

You mentioned that your TV wont do 50Hz on that Resolution so how shoul it be possible to use that Resolution at 50Hz Huh

RE: Perfect playback of 23.976 fps possible with nVidia? - bilbonvidia - 2012-10-03

Sweet Jesus, maybe I am banging my head on a brick wall here. The auto refresh rate changer wont change to 50hz at the higher resolution. I dont know if it is a settings issue or it just wont do it ie it is incapable.

Is there a way for me to test this ie by adding a mode line? You will have to excuse my obvious lack of knowledge in this area.

RE: Perfect playback of 23.976 fps possible with nVidia? - john.cord - 2012-10-03

Add the proper modeline and test it with xrandr.

RE: Perfect playback of 23.976 fps possible with nVidia? - bilbonvidia - 2012-10-03

Thanks, does this look right?

Modeline "1366x768_50.00" 138.54 1280 1368 1504 1728 1024 1025 1028 1069 -HSync +Vsync

bibi:

Code:
Option "VertRefresh" "DFP-0: 23-60"
Option "HorizSync" "DFP-0: 25-100"

This should be DFP-1 in your case.
