Implement path-based filtering for Advanced Library Filtering on Frodo - [Tahini] - 2012-08-28

Hi,
I just read with disappointment that path filtering is not possible in Frodo (http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Advanced_Library_Filtering).
That is the only thing that would allow me to achieve a fully functional separation of different categories of videos, as described here http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=137478&pid=1178757#pid1178757

I think I am not the only one who would like to implement a different way to organize my media and make them accessible in XBMC. A path-based filtering would make it possible and surely wouldnt hurt to give users a little bit extra freedom to set things up as they want. It doesnt seem that hard to implement, considered there's a whole arsenal of different filters already available.
Can someone please at least consider to add this tiny feature to the code? It would definitely make my day (for several days in a row) Smile

You do realize that the Advanced Library Filtering is only meant for doing one-time filters while you browse your library. It's not meant as a library organization tool as the filter will be lost once you leave a certain view. For that you can (as always) use custom smart playlist.

Perhaps ALF's UI would be something to think about for smart playlists? Just a thought.

No,
I didnt understand the filters could not be saved. So I guess my feature request is invalid Undecided
As I pointed out in my linked post (http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=137478&pid=1178757#pid1178757) if I use custom playlist, I wont be able to use the default video nodes with them. And if i was able to copy the video nodes and use them with my custom playlists (not sure if and how, I have to find out), they wouldnt be applied only to the content of custom playlists, but to the whole video library.
Someone spoke about creating custom video nodes, but the question is, can those be path-filtered or somehow linked to a playlist's content?
I am starting to think there's no way in the world to keep separated different categories of movies and tv shows Confused

I don't know how much help they'd be in your case but are you aware of tags?

Yes, I am aware of those. Even though I tremble at the idea of tagging 300+ movies and 70+ documentaries one by one, there's still the problem that tv shows do not accept tags (ref: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Advanced_Library_Filtering).

Can't you just do it using custom library nodes with a standard smart playlist?

I did it with about 10 different types of video.

No idea how it would work with the skin though.
