Clarifications on builds... - abba77 - 2012-09-01

On this page http://xbmc.org/download/, the main download under the windows logo is the "Eden" final build, correct?

Are the latest nightly builds considered Frodo?, and as of this post, the latest being : XBMCSetup-20120831-ef7579c-master.exe 01-Sep-2012 10:22 45M Details

If not, what would the latest nightly builds be called, and then what and where is Frodo?

thanks.

the stable version is eden,
frodo build will be the new build but those builds are still very beta,
somethings might work something wont work or got borked with the new release,
like (external)subtitle support on blu-rays.
this works with eden,

ok thanks, because i hear people talking about frodo beta 3 or 4. but looking at nightly builds, how would you know which one they are referring to?

You can download Frodo Alpha builds from http://mirrors.xbmc.org/snapshots/win32/

ah thanks. the wiki explains the difference between nightly and alpha frodo builds. they are all frodo but nightlies likely unstable, and alpha semi-stable.

... it is rare that XBMC builds become unstable (crashing, etc). I don't see any reason to think Alpha builds have more stability, reliability, etc than any most of the nightly builds. I watch TRAC and see if something I care about gets fixed... if it does, I wait a few days to ensure it does not get reversed and then I use a newer build.

Ultimately... if a build is working for you, there is no reason to install a different one, unless a new feature you want gets put in, or yo just want to test to try to bash bugs Smile
