Thats what I said, sins the last quarter of 2013 (summer wasn't a lucky word choice, summer in Holland equals winter in Australia).

Got a NUC the other day (DC3217BY) all set up and running pretty easily. I ended up installing OpenELEC.

I used to have a Revo r3610 which I would leave on all the time and I was planning on doing the same with the NUC. I went to watch something last night and noticed some green pixels on the screen that look like tearing.

I checked the temperature of the using the system info within XBMC and it said it was up to 140F which I am guessing if far too hot, have been looking at getting a Silverstone DC3217BY to help keep it cool but just wanted to check if anyone else had had a heating issue with these?

140°F = 60°C is way of being to hot, thats rather on the cold side and shouldn't give any problems at all. Its been discussed earlier in this topic, look a few pages back.

Edit: I'm only referring to temps, not the image issue.

Maybe it was higher than that, I'd need to do another test this evening?

What was discussed previously, the case, the heating or the green tearing? I found stuff about the first two but not the latter.

Hey just a quick question or two.
I bought be i3 model when it first came out, and being impressed with that, I bought the celeron version for the bedroom.

I'm using windows 8 at the moment, and wondering if I should install openelec on it? Would I see any improvement? How are drivers and MCE remotes handled? Easily??

Use a USB stick and try it.

Before, save your Data or plug your Drive out.

dod you see any speed difference in the celeron / i3 in xbmc?

The i3 boots faster, loads up quicker and runs Aeon Nox better than the celeron. Now, saying that though, the Celeron is absolutely 100% fine. But compared to the i3, it's a tad slower.

The Celeron is perfect for a bedroom setup, the i3 is more suited to a home theater/gaming setup

I was thinking about the DC3217BY Box Canyon i3-3217U but noticed it doesn't come with ethernet??

Thats incorrect, it comes with a standard Thunderbolt interface that beholds, besides a possible (10Gbit) ethernet connection, many other interfaces. Those interfaces can only be used when using a extra adapter that will cost extra money, depending of the type of adapter. The Thunderbolt > Ethernet adapter is the most expensive and costs around $30/€30 (sometimes cheaper on Ebay). The adapter works fine in Windows and when using OpenElec.

I purchased a Celeron back in August. Unfortunately the Crucial mSATA (recommended on this thread somewhere) died on me over the weekend. Have sent it back to Amazon. Just wondering regarding the replacement will just any mSATA suffice or is there a certain one that plays more nicely with the NUC?

At the moment I'm running OpenElec off a USB2 drive and it ain't half bad at all to be honest.

RE: Intel NUC - HTPC (Sandy/Ivy Bridge 2012 edition) - -DDD- - 2014-01-15

what Crucial did you have, M4 or M500? What Firmware was on it?

RE: Intel NUC - HTPC (Sandy/Ivy Bridge 2012 edition) - VanZan - 2014-01-15

It was a M4...umm firmware? Oh dear! I just banged it straight in when I got it.

Oh crap...there's a fix....
