HDMI should be presented as both a display output and an audio output, so it should be no issue to use one just for video and one just for audio. At least in theory.

Just look at this 4k video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-GYrbecb88

Unless you have a 60+ inch 4K TV, I don't think you'll see any noticeable difference from a normal viewing distance, but others might disagree.

I tried playing the 4k video in 1080p and the Original 4k resolution on my monitor and there is a huge difference between them. But of course i'm not watching on the PC, so i plugged it to a 50" TV and played both resolution from a normal viewing distance.

The difference is still very noticeable especially during 0:52-1:05 and quite noticeable after 1:20.

@LeJon

Both your monitor and 50" TV is native 3840x2160?

Both are 1080p but the 4k video still looks sharper and more detailed compared to 1080p at same viewing distance. Of course, it will be more noticeable if it's played on a 4k tv.

The price for a 4k Tv is still quite high at $5k for a Sony 55" but I expect them to drop soon once other brands start launching them at the end of the year. So perhaps going i5 with HD5000 will be more future proof if 4k somehow becomes the standard? Unless the i3 with HD4400 can transcode 4k well enough.

$5K on a Sony TV 4k, AMAZING. Here on Brazil the price is 45K for a LG 4kTV... ahahaha...

6/11/2013 9.18.10.3165

DRIVER VERSION: 15.31.9.3165 and 15.31.9.64.3165
DATE: June 05, 2013

Mostly 4th GEN additions - HD5000

Nothing really relevant for our INTEL NUC 3rd GEN HD4000

New features:

 The Intel Graphics Control Panel now keeps the advanced HDMI settings such as Quantization and xvYCC persistent between reboots.

Issues Fixed (as they may relate to our windows / XBMC environment):
Don't upgrade, same corruption issue as with the previous driver. I had to rollback to my previous driver. Read more here: _https://communities.intel.com/thread/38686

So how does one build a Celeron 847 for $20 more than Pivos Xios?

I'm all for bang for your buck, but I have looked quickly, and I'm at $90 before PicoPSU, Case and HDD. That's either a lower cost board and ram or a higher cost and some free ram Smile

Anyone got some insight to this comment I see all over the forums?

Thanks!

Is this version 9.18.10.3165? I was under the impression that the corrupted graphics were present on the old driver and that a new one was released on the 6/11/2013 without these problems. Have I got this wrong?

Yeah, this is in version previous to 9.18.10.3165, but also confirmed not working in 9.18.10.3165 by me, as I thought that would be corrected by now. Others in that thread confirmed the same.

RE: Intel NUC - HTPC possibilities - wgards8 - 2013-06-21

OK, cheers for the heads up I will keep an eye out.
