Gummiboot, refind, grub-efi?

I used a GPT layout with GRUB as bootloader. Here's my partition info:

Code:
$ sudo gdisk -l /dev/sda
GPT fdisk (gdisk) version 0.8.7

Partition table scan:
  MBR: protective
  BSD: not present
  APM: not present
  GPT: present

Found valid GPT with protective MBR; using GPT.
Disk /dev/sda: 125045424 sectors, 59.6 GiB
Logical sector size: 512 bytes
Disk identifier (GUID): 783A3002-626F-49A1-85D1-12225885803E
Partition table holds up to 128 entries
First usable sector is 34, last usable sector is 125045390
Partitions will be aligned on 2048-sector boundaries
Total free space is 4062 sectors (2.0 MiB)

Number  Start (sector)    End (sector)  Size       Code  Name
   1            2048            6143   2.0 MiB     EF02  BIOS_GRUB
   2            8192         1056767   512.0 MiB   EF00  UEFI_SYSTEM
   3         1056768         3153919   1024.0 MiB  8300  SWAP
   4         3153920       125045390   58.1 GiB    8300  BTRFS

The BIOS_GRUB partition is not really needed, I just added it in case I wanted to install to MBR and still use GPT. The UEFI_SYSTEM partition is mounted to /boot/efi. Look at the GRUB page in the Arch wiki, it has pretty good instructions.

Bmul, you do know what WAF means right?

You don't need an amp to make it WAF. You can wire it straight to telly.

Feel free to read the NUC threads and wiki link in my sig.

True, but the way you said it sounded like it wouldn't work unless you had an AV receiver. Just saying that you don't need one to make it work but having one makes the experience better!

RE: Intel NUC - HTPC possibilities - Bmul - 2013-08-21

He was asking for issue, bug or file incompatibility.

The only problem (issue) whit the NUC the audio pass trough hdmi.

And there is no good workaround for it so you got to be prepared

RE: Intel NUC - HTPC possibilities - jammyb - 2013-08-21

Mines plugged directly into telly with HDMI. Doesn't have any bug/issue with audio pass through!?

What you on about?

So when your going to play some music you leave the television on.

Backlight brightness will slowly get worse.

Just use XBMC remote for Android or iPhone, let's you play music without having to turn on the TV. Or buy a network receiver and stream music via LAN directly, without using XBMC. Going a bit off-topic here by the way, my apologies.

Passthrough in standby is not supported by most HDTV.

by audio pass through hdmi issue, you mean that everything is sent in pcm to the Amp and theres' no DTS TrueHD or something else?

Yes it could be.
or maybe there is no audio pass through at all when the HDTV is in standby.

You have to check this before you buy a NUC if you care about it?

If you only wanted to use the NUC just for video playback there is no problem

I just bought myself a receiver and loudspeakers because of this € 700,--

RE: Intel NUC - HTPC possibilities - jayce996 - 2013-08-21

ok, i already have a receiver & speakers so this would not be a problem so.

Hurrah! I don't use xbmc for music. The UI is pants. I use iPad/Spotify and AirPlay it to speakers.

Hey all,....

I've been communication with Intel Tech Support about my i3, which doesn't have the usb header installed on the mb.

If you have a NUC i3 , and want to know if you have the usb header installed or not:

Look at the bottom of your unit, and locate the SA number (System Assembly) on the bottom of the NUC.

Image

If you have:

SA G80097-101 --> NO USB HEADER installed
SA G80097-102 --> has internal USB HEADER
SA G80097-103 --> has internal USB HEADER
SA G80097-104 --> has internal USB HEADER

the intel guy seemed to indicate that there may also be -102, -103 so if any of you have that number, please let us know if you have the internal USB header or not.

If your unit is still under warranty, ... go here:
http://www.intel.com/support/mailform/desktop/nuc/emailsupport.htm

and send them all of the info about your unit,... Model# Serail# SA# , etc etc.....
If it's still under warranty, they're replace your unit with the later model.

Be sure to fill in the description box, that you have a unit without the usb header, yet need to install an internal rc6 receiver.

(also, if someone wants to add the above to the WIKI, that would be fine by me)

hope this helps
Legion
