Installing XBMCbuntu on Mac Mini - Jeff - 2012-09-19

I'm currently running XBMC on a Mac Mini 4.1 (2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo; 2GB memory; GeForce 320M graphics).

As I only use the Mac Mini for XBMC, I was considering replacing the Mac OSX with XBMCbuntu.

Has anyone else already gone through this process?

My main questions are:

1. Is it worth the effort? Would it be a better platform for XBMC than the standard Mac OSX? I only use XBMC to play locally-stored digital (video) media. Everything works fine except for some occasional random shutdown issues.

2. Would I notice any performance improvements (other than faster boot times - which is part of the reason for me considering this change)? I play mostly SD content but do have some HD content. Most media plays fine on my current setup, although I do have occasional issues with some files (especially with 1080p/VC-1 encoded content and True-HD audio - the latter not currently supported on Mac OSX platform).

3. Are there drivers available for the integrated IR receiver? (either bundled with XBMCbuntu or available online)

4. I believe I'll need to reprogram my Harmony One remote as it requires Windows MCE commands - is this correct?

Any feedback or opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thx in advance.
