Widevine support - Basje - 2012-10-03

Hi there,

I was wondering if there will be any (future) support for the Widevine video streaming codec/protocol (video/x-widevine).

More and more online content providers start to use this method and it would be nice to have this codec/protocol supported?

RE: Widevine support - benito2313 - 2012-10-03

Yes, in the netherlands it is being used by a couple of cable companys to view there content online.

It would be awesome if XBMC could support this.

RE: Widevine support - TobiasD - 2012-10-03

Yes, there are more and more streams where it's necessary..

RE: Widevine support - mftvrocks - 2012-10-03

good to have

RE: Widevine support - aart - 2012-10-04

I would like to see this implemented too if possible!

RE: Widevine support - Memphiz - 2012-10-04

I guess once ffmpeg has support for it and we do the next ffmpeg version bump after that - XBMC will support it too.

What source do you use for ffmpeg? So I can check what is included?

RE: Widevine support - spiff - 2012-10-04

*ffmpeg* 0.10.2

RE: Widevine support - benito2313 - 2012-10-04

RE: Widevine support - moh-san - 2012-10-08

This would be great. spiff, 0.10.2 is from march, when do you think the new version will be implemented?

RE: Widevine support - benito2313 - 2012-10-08

Heey i have put the question at the next link: http://ffmpeg.org/trac/ffmpeg/ticket/1793
But they need to know à little more information off widevine, mabye somebody give them that?
I dont know the technical details, im just à bit of à noob.

RE: Widevine support - RonM - 2012-10-19

Support for Widevine would be great for all UPC (Liberty Media) countries, as the Horizon is introduced in The Netherlands first but will be introduced in other countries, like Switserland, in the coming months/quarters.

EDIT: Widevine was bought by Google a few years ago. However, up to this day they only support Windows and OSX (besides specific STB's). No Linux and so far no freely available version for Android! The strange thing is that the Widevine website still mentions support for all kinds of mobile platforms and Android, but since Google bought it they seem to have removed support for these platforms.

RE: Widevine support - Memphiz - 2012-10-20

As long as it won't be a dead hype like hi10p - well its still an ffmpeg issue more then an xbmc feature request...

We already posted a ffmpeg request. I must say that I see the use of this format growing very fast in the "online-stream-world". So I guess they really like it.

RE: Widevine support - benito2313 - 2012-10-27

Heey everbody, still no word?

Mabye more people should respond on the
ffmpeg forum: http://ffmpeg.gusari.org/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=693&p=1095&hilit=Widevine#p1095
or
ffmpeg ticket: http://ffmpeg.org/trac/ffmpeg/ticket/1793

To get more attention to widevine support.

Thanks to everyone that tries to help out
