Best WiFi Card - littlepooch21 - 2012-10-30

I have already built my window's media pc. It has been hard wired to the internet for the past few months but I have to now make it wireless. What is the best cards out there to do this? I want to maximize my speeds. I'm open to anything

Intel 6300 on PCIe adapter - http://www.hwtools.net/adapter/MP2W_6300.html - on 5GHz band.

You can build your own for cheaper with parts from eBay.

What is your router? If your router is slow, it doesn't do any good with the fastest wireless card in your HTPC.....

i have a netgear wireless "n" router. it's a 2.4 ghz

if you can go asus ac router and usb receiver.
if not than any 2,4ghz dual will do the trick

I might be missing something, but why go with a card at all? What about something like these?

http://www.amazon.com/Medialink-Wireless-Adapter-802-11n-Compatible/dp/B002RM08RE

I ask because I was going to buy one myself this week for the HTPC.

Cards generally have large external antennas as opposed to the usb adapter which will have a small antenna on the tiny pcb. Plus that usb adapter is only n150 - not ideal if you want to stream hd content.

Doesn't HQ 1080p only stream at 8-10 mb/s? What about the Medialink option?

If it is blu-ray 1080P, you might have better luck with these wireless options-

-TP-LINK TL-WDN4800....

or

-Belkin Powerline AV500 Network Adapter....

Yes 10mBs should be good but with all transfer standards you have to calculate at least a 90% loss:
Usb 2 - 480 mbs =48mbs (6mBs)
Sata 3 - 6gbs = 600mbs
Wifi n 150 -150mbs =15mbs
And so on

RE: Best WiFi Card - live4ever - 2012-10-31

HQ 1080p is subjective, I consider it to be untouched BD video with lossless audio (~50 Mbps).
