Ciquta - what kind of random problems are you experiencing? I only ask because I am considering purchasing an atv520 this week. Do you know if it runs netflix decently?

Random freezing all over, not just on XBMC
But yesterday i've updated to the latest official firmware and since then it looks much more stable and no more freezing (so far).

Confluence is super-smooth, Ace and Aeon are smooth enough (about 22fps) even with fanart activated and everything.
Xvid playback sometimes could drop a frame but it's acceptable.
H264 is very smooth, both from USB and SMB shares.
I can't tell you about Netflix since my area is not covered, but i've tried other HD streaming (youtube, documentary.net, vimeo) and it worked like a charm.

What I don't like:
- remote (you can see pictures online, it's pretty useless)
- the wifi is really weak, i can do much much much better with my galaxy in same room

If you need wifi go with ATV1200, instead if you have ethernet this unit is really cool Cool

Ciquta, thank you so much for that information! I only use Confluence really and always only ethernet. I will look at getting another remote too. Sounds like a decent box. Thanks again!

I'm using Back Row and while not quite as fast as Confluence, I personally prefer the views for TV.
Slightly off topic, but out of interest does anyone know how to swap skins and not lose settings? Every time I change skin I have to reset the audio settings and basic menu settings.

The remote is good enough imo for the ATV1200. Especially when compared to the ultra sh1t remote that came with the small Sumvision Cyclone mkv player. Even from a foot away it sometimes never worked. Not had any issues with the Sumvision Cyclone x2 remote which is the version of ATV1200 I have.

Not sure about platforms other than Android for the remote software, but Yatse is an awesome remote for XBMC. I even paid for the unlocker just to give the author some money. He deserves it.

Thanks a lot for this info. Out of curiosity, which firmware and xbmc builds are people running on their atv520? The official releases?

RE: Geniatech ATV1200 and XBMC hardware decoding - Leema - 2013-08-06

The pivos nightly builds - best at the moment.

What version are you running now?

I'm guessing it is this

http://www.mygica-forum.de/board1-info/firmware-updates/1-official-updates-atv1200-atv520/

I have seen this page referenced twice by other users as being the 'official firmware' page. I have not yet tried to update my atv520 with these files though.

However a quick google search leads me to this page

http://www.geniatech.com/news/mx-atv1200-atv520-android-4.1-20130115-upgrading-instruction.asp

which is providing instructions but is linking to an older FW version off of Geniatech.com rather than Mygica-forum.de. I have also been told that other individuals are running Pivos' nightly builds, and that they are the most stable right now.

I have the atv1200 and i find it very difficult to keep track of firmware updates and various xbmc apps and peoples comments of each combination. and that's without throwing other machines into the mix.

would atv520 owners be able to start a separate thread?

AFAIK both firmware and apps are the same for both devices, the hardware is the same too except for few outputs

RE: Geniatech ATV1200 and XBMC hardware decoding - saddie - 2013-08-07

Correct re: ports ciquta. I can also confirm that the FW from Geniatech is the same for the atv1200 and the atv520. Sorry to hijack this thread, was not intended. I have started a new thread re: atv520 here http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=170791 - please all interested parties come add their experiences!

I bought the Sumvision version of this box and just recently flashed the Geniatech firmware. Several times now I have taken it to a friend's house to show it off and changed the output resolution to 1080p and then forgot to switch it back to 1080i or 720p before bringing it home. Each time when I turn it on I get the message, 'not supported' on the TV. According to the firmware changelog there is supposed to be a setting to automatically change the output to the highest supported by the television but I couldn't find it. Even booting into the recovery it is still outputting at 1080p. I have yet to install an SSH server so I guess there's no way to remotely access the box and the change the resolution.

With 86 pages worth of material, I was wondering if it would be possible to get an update on the best ways to use this box. My box has the firmware from 20130510 and xbmc-XIOS-Android-012913.zip but I haven't found XBMC stable to use. It often crashes, and can be very slow to navigate. Instead I've been using the built in media player to access my files, which is good but not what I'm really after.

What are the best firmware and XBMC combinations for this box? I'd love to be able to use it as my dedicated media player for run my .mkv movies and mp4 TV shows, with episode guides and movie information.

I am using the same firmware as you and the XBMC package (includes many well known addons, such as 1Channel) from here: http://forum.androidgadget.co.uk/showthread.php?tid=226.

I rarely reboot and the navigation is almost as fast as on my mac.

If you want to install this version of XBMC remember to uninstall the current version first.
