I can't get it to work - Biggus - 2013-01-14 Hi, I'm new to XBMC and I'm determined to get it working in a linux enviroment. I have IT background (mainly windows) so I should be OK at following instructions etc. I downloaded XBMC Ubuntu Frodo 12 installed it and its been working fine, I've been impressed by the software I thought it was time to have a go at the TV PVR side as ultimatley I'd like a one stop media centre. I've managed to download MythTV and install it with the SQL backend etc. The issue I have is I can't get it to see my TV Tuner, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Before I shed out alot of money to buy a decent HD TV tuner I thought I'd buy a cheap one from eBay to begin to see how I get on with then upgrade later. The TV tuner I have is a WinTV-HVR-1100-L.P. Hauppauge Low Profile PCI DVB-T I've tried to test the card by following these instructions http://parker1.co.uk/mythtv_dvb.php but this doesn't seems to fail, the instuctions seem to suggest the card needs a firmware upgrade but I'm not having much success with that either. Is anybody able to help? even remote desktop and take a look? Thanks in advance RE: I can't get it to work - LeeG - 2013-01-14 Have you tried installing tvheadend as the back end instead? By all accounts MythTV is awkward to set up RE: I can't get it to work - Biggus - 2013-01-14 I've not, I can't remember the reason why I went down the Myth TV root. I've not done any research into TVheadend but can you record with it? I followed the instrucions on this link http://parker1.co.uk/mythtv_dvb.php and I can't even get that to work and thats before I open up Myth TV RE: I can't get it to work - Biggus - 2013-01-14 I've figured out why I went down the Myth TV route according to the Wiki http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=PVR/Backend its the only linux distribution that supports time shifting. RE: I can't get it to work - Biggus - 2013-01-16 Quick Update, I really wanted to get Myth TV working for its time shifting feature, however as sugested above I should try tvheadend instead, Installed it and within minutes it was working, I didn't even have to follow any steps. Now it's making me think what is the best back end and why? RE: I can't get it to work - spontex - 2013-01-19 Hi, TvHeadend almost supports timeshifting: I can watch programs that are being recordings. The playback sometimes stops but then I only have to start it again and it works fine. TvHeadend is quickly improving and is easier to set up than MythTV. |
