Can't access NFS shares - goldberg96 - 2013-03-07

Hi folks. I am new to NFS shares and to XBMC. I am, however, a computer tech and pretty saavy with this stuff (I thought).

I have a Synology DS-412+ NAS. I have created a number of NFS shares. I have also gone into the /etc/exports file and changed insecure_locks to just insecure on all entries and restarted NFS.

No matter what I do I can't get XBMC on my Mac Mini or my Windows 7 Ultimate system to accces the NFS shares. On my Windows 7 system I can't get anything mounted (mostly error 53's). In XBMC on my Mac Mini, I can pull up the NFS shares but I can't select them to add videos to XBMC.

I have read literally hundreds of articles that I found on Google. I have tried so many things I don't even remember what I've tried anymore. I really want to use NFS because it is faster. I know SMB is easier to set up but I'm not the type who just take the easy way out. I have already set up MySQL on my Synology and pointed XBMC to that.

I really need help from people who have done all this and can guide me in determine what I've got wrong.

Thank you all in advance for any help you're all willing to give me in getting to the bottom of this. I really like XBMC but I want to work out this NFS stuff and use it.

Rob

Log uploaded.

It appears I am getting Access Denied but I don't know why. On my synology NAS I updated /etc/exports and changed all the 'insecure_locks' parameters to 'insecure'

At any rate, I have now been able to connect to the NFS shares from my Windows 7 Ultimate system but the access time to the shares is very slow. Today I am going to try to access the shares from the OSX system but not from XBMC.

I appreciate the help with this............ I want to get this right before starting to populate media into the system.

Rob

Did you read the nfs wiki in my sig (iirc it has a part about synology nas aswell). Access denied is what it gives. So either the user id you are connection from (which is the user id XBMC runs under) doesn't fit (e.x. do a squash_all to a synology userid and chown all exports to this userid - not sure if this is possible on those restricted NASes).
