I would love to install the app on my Kindle Fire, but it's not in the Amazon Marketplace. Can I directly download the apk somewehere?

No - I'd rather not do so. The current Kindle Fire HD allows installation of non-amazon .apk files which is why I and lomdar67 are just looking for the apk.

From your other thread, it appears you are trying to install and run the XBMC app itself on a Kindle Fire HD. This thread is about installing/running the *remote control* app on the Kindle, which is used to control XBMC running on another system. Just wanted to make sure there's no confusion here.

Amazon will not allow Kodi as it is "often used for pirated content". You can get the app downloaded and attempt side-loading (downloaded and apk file backed up with ES File Explorer on Android phone and sent over) but it will not open and install.
(edit, just saw how old this is but meh some people might still wonder so leaving)
