Hi Wolfgar, I just tested your xbmc-imx with dvb-t here and it seems the codecs used in dvb-t broadcast are not recognized unfortunately:

In this case it does not crash but no video is displayed only audio is played. The errors at the end are flooded in logfile.
Could you please try to add support for these codecs?
I can capture a TS stream should that help.

Hi there
A few answers :
@j4ns :
- I fully agree with you I don't expect performance improvement when porting xbmc to X11 for imx6 nor do I think that it makes sense if we consider xbmc by itself.
Yet, I though mtx512 was aiming at such a support (egl with X11 backend instead of fb backend) to integrate xbmc in its xubuntu build. Maybe I am wrong ?
- Your results with 4.0.0 bsp make me dubious : I will give it a try very soon...
- Thanks for your report regarding the missing support for dvb-t (HD or not). I am also personally interested in adding such support so I add it on my todo list and I will try to work on it this week. A reference ts stream that I can use for my dev would definitively help : Could you post one please ?
@mtx512: If it helps, I can try to build ma latest version for your environment, please send me a link to your new image with both X11 and FB drivers...
Best regards
Stephan

Hi there,
Kernel is here in branch imx_3.0.35_4.0.0-gk802. I have created new gk802 board file so that future ports should be easier.
X11 rootfs is here. I'll create a fb version in the next few days with X11 disabled.
RE: GK802/Hi802 - j4ns - 2013-06-18
Hi Wolfgar, I've uploaded four dvb-t ts stream samples - two HD and two SD - all in this zip archive (18MB). I've recorded it on desktop, but the xbmc on target behaves the same as described in my previous post with the recorded files - sd samples cause a crash, hd samples play audio only. Concerning the 4.0.0 release - freescales states at the end of the release notes document, that it dropped support for 1.0 silicon revision - that is unfortunatelly the case of my board. So even though the kernel boots, having some patches there, the troubles may be caused by other incompatibilities -> your/others results with 4.0.0 release may really be different.

Hi mtx
I have downloaded your rfs and I am building xbmc for now for fb backend then we will see...
At least, having my latest version which runs in your RFS when we don't launch the Xserver should be straightforward (I should be able to send a build tomorrow night...)

Hi j4ns,
Thanks : I have just downloaded your samples and It will be my priority regarding xbmc development by the end of the week..
Also, many thanks for your explanations regarding your specific case and BSP V4.0.0.
I have just rebuilt libvpu and libfslvpuwrap and I am about to switch kernel and grab updated GPU blobs to give this 4.0.0 a try on my own device (at least for the pieces of software I care about...). I keep you informed...
Best regards
Stephan
RE: GK802/Hi802 - wolfgar - 2013-06-20
Hi,
I have just upgraded the kernel and the GPU and VPU libraries to be in line with BSP V4.0.0 in my image.
I will perform more formal and serious tests and comparisons but here are my first impressions :
* There are some good improvements regarding VPU :
- For some videos : it solves an issue which was not so visible from the user (video was still smooth but some frames were missing). I was forced to drop some decoded pictures because there were no v4l2 physical buffer available while there should be. I am very happy with this one because I have hunted this bug for a long time...
- the "curtaining at the bottom of the screen" issue reported by Toverkwark seems to be gone
* Regarding GPU
- I have not tested pure performance regarding rendering : it seems to be the same (except a few lags)
- It definitively does not solve overheating issue but the new GPU power management and dynamic frequency improve the required time to cool the device when we stop to use the GPU... It is good but not good enough....
At last, I have experienced a strange issue (maybe similar to the one reported by j4ns) : With some videos, when I want to display the XBMC gui while the video is playing then the screen goes black and it goes back after a few seconds... (it is not a thermal issue for sure. It is likely to be related to IPU which is in charge of combining the 2 layers)
To me, it is a major issue which prevents me to release the updated image for now : I have to investigate further this one.
Best regards
Stephan

Hi
i tested the X11 rootfs with the imx_3.0.35_4.0.0-gk802 kernel.
the X11 hardware acceleration is not working.
(EE) AIGLX error: vivante exports no extensions (/usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabi/dri/vivante_dri.so: undefined symbol: __driDriverExtensions)
do you have any ideas?

Hi, that error is report because the vivante driver does not support AIGLX which is normal. You still have X11 acceleration.

Many thanks, will give it a test.
As a side note - I noticed my CPU part number is 'SC6Q888YM10AC'. The 'SC' indicates 'Special', normally it would be 'MC' indicating 'Mass Produced' and three digits '888' don't match the normal part identifier markings. I did some GPU loading testing with 'hste' on IRC, his GK802 has a rev 1.1 CPU that seems to stay a lot cooler than mine would for the same GPU loads.
RE: GK802/Hi802 - hste - 2013-06-21
My cpu is if I can read it right: MX6Q5EYM10AB. And it looks like it runs cooler. like mtx512 says. With a big heatsink mounted on the CPU, the temp stays below 76 with heavy stress.
I'll try installing xbmc and if its some test u have there that gives you temp problem I could try reproduce it on mine.

Hi,
I forgot to mention that the XBMC I posted depends on taglib V1.8.
As this version is not packaged in the ubuntu/linaro image (only 1.7-1ubuntu5 is available), I built this newer version.
Here is a taglibV1.8 archive which is compatible with your RFS
Make sure that xbmc uses this library...
Keep me informed about your results (I have not tested but it should just work the same as with my image...)
