Sure, I regularly try the nightly builds, but I still have to keep comming back to the old February test build. Problems:
  • Until August no good working libstagefright (screen artefacts)
  • Since then a reasonably working libstagefright except for longer viewing, but external player broken, so no workaround. Still test build
  • Official build with libstagefright, but now broken add-ons, this lasted until november
  • Intermittent failures with libstgefright, but now also sound problems which, last time I checked a few days ago, stil prevail
So I would love to use the latest builds, but all have unaccepable defects for any serious use, so every time I have to switch back to enjoy the product. It is not supported but it works at least so well that it is, unlike the last few month's nightlies, useable. When the nightlies are working good enough I will be one of the first to switch. I'll try again tonight, but if occurrences from the past are any indication about the future, I will have to which back again... But I keep hoping...

Edit: sound problem still present in xbmc-20131126-81d9bf1-master-armeabi-v7a.apk
so once more back again to xbmc-20130219-32e99c7-android-hwaccel-armeabi-v7a.apk
Reproduction and log here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=178185 however since there are no responses I seem to be the only one with this bug so no bug report was filed.

Using outdated builds will void any help. You are on your own.

OK that I can understand but as I've said already this build works like a dream on 2 of my tabs and therefore no need for support. I had this on my Nexus 10 and it was ace but then I updated to a nightly and have had nothing but problems ever since. So it's each to their own and to use what works best for you.

Yeh! It is fixed in the latest nightly xbmc-20131129-6dd8e47-master-armeabi-v7a.apk, so I think I can finally switch permanently to a recent development build and use libstagefright instead of an external player!

I think the upcoming alpha for November will be great. The only problem remaining seems to be the starting the common cache plugin, but that is more a nuisance than a problem.

Edit: spoke to soon. Plays well with mediacodec, but libstagefright is bursty and the picture is upside down (that's a first, never saw something like that before)... This is on an MK808B with RK3066 SOC. I wil try to make a log later, currenly testing a full length movie in 1080p using mediacodec...

Yes, I see this from times to times. No idea why. Usually, as soon as I stop the playback, xbmc drops to desktop. I see this on Ouya, too, so it is not device-dependent.
After relaunching, usually, the issue is gone.

Also on galaxy s3 (i9300 model). This wasn't an issue in some earlier versions. (not quoting as tapatalk complains that the subject is too long)

I noticed some strange flickering at the start and indeed after stopping the playback XBMC did crash to desktop, so it looks like the same problem.

I just ran a 2:12 hour 1080p movie using mediacodec; 9 framedrops for the whole movie which all occurred in the first quarter (2 directly at the start, so that does not even count), I have not noticed it other than the counter increase, ran very smooth at this RK3066 device. 100% usable.

I retried libstagefright. To be sure I changed the setting (mediacodec off) and rebooted (and disconnect power) to have a clean inital start. The picture was upright this time but looked like a slide show instead of a movie... No reports of frame drops and skips strangly enough.

I enabled debugging and I downloaded the Monsters sample from here: http://www.auby.no/files/video_tests/
http://www.auby.no/files/video_tests/h264_1080p_hp_4.1_10mbps_dts_unstyled_subs_monsters.mkv

I clicked on it and selected XBMC, it began to play but again upside down. It played and at the end, after 1 minute, XBMC crashed.

Here is the log: <wait, i make a new one without unsupported plugins...>
Okay, here the log, unfortunately not the upside down version, could not reproduce. http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=91959
Here is the previous run, but bear in mind it contains unsupported plugins (not used but present), so fine if you wat to ignore this one, but since it looks like the problem is not that easy to reproduce I give the link anyway: http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=91946

This movie is upright with mediacodec but not smooth either.

edit: Googled and found that android 4.4 kitkat is the issue. Going to try nightly instead of monthly.

RE: Support Thread for libstagefright - Experimental hardware video decoding builds - Electroman15 - 2013-12-03

I may have stubled upon something helpful here. I have a cs918 rk3188 quad core 2 gb ram etc, I used a lewy true 1080 rom and I installed xbmc for ouya 12.3. First I tried xbmc for ouya 12.4 and it failed totally then I went with 12.3 and tried ok it stutters like crazy after 1 hour no big secret there but then I unchecked libstagefright and I've been watching close to an hour now with no stutters. This may do the trick, Its been 50 minutes now and usually I would see the start of the deterioration by now. Now I may have just gotten lucky with the file or some other freak thing but so far this looks like it may have some potential. Hopefully I am not speaking too soon.

On another note I got tired of struggling with this 1 hour stuttering thing on my androids so I bought an ouya just to try out. It completely plays anything I throw at it perfectly. Yes this is the most perfect piece of hardware for running xbmc that I can find, I am very impressed with it. The controller is the weakest link with that setup though. But still at least I can watch a 2 hour movie without being hassled.

RE: Support Thread for libstagefright - oldpoem - 2013-12-04

If you don't mind these things, VC-1 , MPEG2 1080i, HDMI-CEC not implemented , Refresh rate lock at 60Hz ,Audio Passthrough might not working on some reciever. OUYA is very good device for XBMC especially with it tiny form it's great for portable. The playback now on SPMC 12.4.1 and XBMC Nightly is good and heavy menu works fine.

RE: Support Thread for libstagefright - pks83 - 2013-12-05

Hi,

I am new to this forum, ouya (got it delivered yesterday) and xbmc, but I have to say that the Koying's SPMC 12.4.1 rocks Smile

720p, 1080p works flawesly, both with dts, ac3 sound (5.1). I suggest checking 1080p on BBC Plaent Earth episode one, the flyby of thousands of birds kills anything except this version Smile

There are few issues, which fortunately do not matter much:

1. Audio passthough does not work with my receiver (sony bluray 880 home theater system), but I think as long as I get the surround sound onto the [correct] speakers, I should not complain
2. There is a slight audit delay vs. video, it seems to be constant at -550 ms, so correction of +550 ms and saving it as default setting sorted it out. I've tested it on multiple files with different sound/video encoding and it always is 550ms, so it seems to be just like that on my setup. When I connect HDMI directly to TV then I am not getting any delay, so it must be my reciever. Wierd.
3. AirPlay does not work - it is not advertised on my iDevices. I am not sure if that's actualy SPMC fault, or is it just missing zeroconf/bonjour thing in ouya - anyone care to test?
4. Not all buttons are mapped for standard controler - i.e. it's not possible to change volume, anyway I am planning getting IR receiver so it will not be a problem.

Thanks guys for awesome work!

RE: Support Thread for libstagefright - dfgas - 2013-12-08

is anyone using gotham 8 and if so any issues with it?

RE: Support Thread for libstagefright - mite_jan - 2013-12-13

this is the best build for Rockchip RK3066 devices , stable Frodo

http://www.sendspace.com/file/mw3ff3

it is mod based on Koying SPMC 12.4.1 and it has few goodies in it like mouse wheel support , Mele F10 support , long mouse click that opens contextual menu , mouse hover , so it is very mouse friendly
almost perfect experience with 1080p movies , half of them are without stutter
