At least I slightly understand what I'm doing there. On linux I'm just blindly following some step-by-step guides and usually break stuff... like now... Oh well...
Can't even install the AMD driver any more now...

Cause of this I have written that howto. More than 100K users followed it and more than 50% were pure noobs.
For all others: www.openelec.tv - everything you get here done with a simple usb stick installer.

Sorry, didn't want to start an argument here... But from what I understand your howto is assuming I'm setting up a new system, isn't it?
My system has been going since "Frodo" where I started with XBMCbuntu and then upgraded to Ubuntu 14.04 back in April or so.
So without wiping the system how do I walk through your HowTo? Also my main drive is encrypted if that makes a difference...
btw... AMD driver is installed again now so at least I can use the box for now...

if you don't want to follow the howto(yes it assumes a fresh install), you learn how to fix your current install. But this is off topic of this thread.

Btw we found another user with this FL,FR problem. For him it is a problem when the AVR is switched off when booting linux.
Coud all the affected users please verify this?
Also make sure your AMP settings are not send to HDMI ARC and output should be AMP not TV.

Someone could help my to install catalyst driver on xbmcbuntu?
I tryed to build different times :
install on fresh system (kernel 3.13) but we have a strange error (missing amd fix)
install on kernel 3.14 with patched driver.
It's not possible every time have problem with this driver.

Just brought mine to the new level.

And what should I say: It works like a charme!
Thanks a lot for your efforts and your engagement to support the community!
One thing that I recognized that the creation of the custom-actions.pkla needs superuser (sudo su) privileges.
Even just to access the folders /localauthority/50-local.d/ it is needed to enter them as root.

I have joined purely to thank you for this guide. It worked like a charm on my ASUS AMD E350 platform!
I have taken my xbmc setup from windows to linux and had HUGE problems with the other minimal install script thread. It just wasn't compatible with AMD hardware and I don't have the knowledge to get it working. Did my 5th fresh minimal install and finally followed this guide without a single hitch.
In line with audioman99's comments about the pkla stuff, you do need to be root or just trust your sudo typing to get the directory correct as auto complete doesn't work.
Still, worked without a hitch and for that I thank you!

The 3d performance of open source driver is quite good but VDPAU is missing.
If I want enable the VDPAU I need the fglrx ? Enabling_Video_Hardware_Acceleration

Fglrx never had vdpau support... You are 100% wrong. Start reading in page 1.

I get a real mess if I boot with the AVR turned off and then turn it on after XBMC is up -- basically the screen goes blank, I get a "Core dump to |/usr/share/apport/apport NNNN...", xbmc respawns but screen remains blank. Killing xbmc again via ssh it restarts again and works fine. Turning the AVR on and off while the system is up and running causes no problems.
I personally don't care about this problem since I'm using CEC and basically the TV, AVR and HTPC all come up together, so the problem doesn't happen in real life. But let me know if you want me to provide full information.

Hi,
my xubuntu 14.04 used to work well on dual monitor setup.
By using settings > system > monitor = hdmi-1 I was able to have a startup script that started xbmc on the second monitor upon boot.
That feature is now gone.
Whatever I sat for the monitor option (default, hdmi-0, hdmi-1), the xbmc is always on the primary monitor.
If I right click on the second monitor than choose from the menu applicatons > multimedia > xbmc the xbmc will open on the second monitor in full screen mode.
Does anybody have the same problem?
I would like to start xbmc on second monitor upon boot.
Is there any solution for my problem?

Try to read the first post again and try to find out which logfiles would be required to tell anything concerning that problem.
