It's already available for 57,80€! See here:

Akasa Newton H

Thanks, I might consider the Telsa, it would be nice to get the HDD tidied up inside the case also.

If you want Netflix, you'll want Win8, not Win7, so you can use the Metro app to get Dolby Digital+ and SuperHD, which are not available via the browser.

.... except you can't get DD+ since Intel fubar'd the driver. Intel has finally acknowledged the problem & is working on a fix. Win8 does take a lot of configuring to shut off all the stupidity (i.e., Metro), but once you do the fast boot can't be beat.

Netflix has never supported linux, which is a shame since I'd rather run OE. I used to watch Netflix on a virtualbox session on my Ubuntu desktop -- which wasn't ideal.

That's a real pain. DD+ works perfectly fine on linux.

Oh, just to be clear, this is solely a Win8.1 plus Netflix plus the current Intel driver DD+ issue. Doesn't affect any other use of DD+, though I can't say I have seen DD+ used anywhere else. Intel will fix it in the next driver (fingers crossed).

Dear All,

On the Intel community forum there is an Intel employee (Jason Hoffman) who owns a NUC running Linux himself and who is sending information about problems directly to the responsible team at Intel. If you want you can check the link below and check whether your problem is already known or ask Jason to report it for you.

If I see it right:

- Bios Bug with the remote
- Shutdown problem with Wake On Lan?

Anything else we miss - we are just preparing workarounds for OpenELEC, so that this will all work out of the box. Not that hard for the IR, but the shutdown one sucks :-)

The document available at the link provided below shows how Intel and Linux work together for S3. Maybe it is relevant for someone with more knowledge?

Also the USB 3.0 Bug, it doesn`t boot with 3.0 it works only in a second try

I think this was fixed with the latest Bios from 12.02.2014

No! The USB 3.0 bug is still there...

I've had no problems with my Sandisk Extreme 16Gb USB 3.0 Flash Drive with any BIOS, including the original one it shipped with in November.

Plugged into one of the rear USB 3.0 ports. Haven't done any speed tests, but it feels just as fast in the GUI as the Intel SSD I ran in my ASRock Ion 330.

Well I don't know if anyone else has this issue with HDMI:

Turn on NUC
Turn on amp (Onkyo 609) connected via HDMI. Turn over to the HDMI port.
Turn on TV (Panasonic GT30B 1080p) via HDMI through the amp. Turn the TV over to the HDMI that the Onkyo is connected to.

No picture.

Have to turn on the NUC last - picture.

RE: Intel NUC - HTPC (Haswell Late 2013 edition) - fritsch - 2014-02-14

Tell your amp to transmit the EDID also when not switched on when the NUC starts.

If no TV is actually there (detected, handhsake fails) - OE won't boot. You can use drm_kms_helper to "hard code" EDID info ...

RE: Intel NUC - HTPC (Haswell Late 2013 edition) - OllieB - 2014-02-14

All,

I have just been informed by Intel (sylvia_intel @ intel forum) that the BIOS can be reset without the need to remove the motherboard to disconnect the CMOS battery!!!!

Instead of removing the jumper also used for the regular BIOS recovery process, move the jumper to pins 2-3 (as opposed to normal 1-2).

Function Jumper setting Configuration
------------ ---------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Normal 1-2 The BIOS uses current configuration settings and passwords for booting

Configure 2-3 After the POST runs, Setup runs automatically. The maintenance menu is displayed. Note that this Configure mode is
the only way to clear the BIOS/CMOS settings. Press F9 while in Configure mode to restore default values

Recovery none The BIOS attempts to recover the BIOS configuration using a recovery CD or flash drive

A while back I did a write up on getting Netflix working under Linux (https://communities.intel.com/community/itpeernetwork/blog/2013/09/17/a-linux-based-htpc-with-netflix-heres-how-i-did-it). It's doable but you're not going to get HD audio or video.
