RE: OpenELEC Testbuilds for RaspberryPi Part 2 - mcarni - 2014-02-09

Popconrmix,

I tested some more (closed all doors, sat at 10cm from the TV and asked the wife to listen too...) and I am positive that with "no_hdmi_resample=1" there is crackling while with the same option set to 0 there is no crackling.

Note. Crackling is not loud has it happened in the past, I am not sure it happens always at teh same time in teh video...I am guessing not... but I am not positive...I am pretty sure it was not there in January's builds...

I set the option to 1 and 0 at least a couple of times and I tested on 2 different files.

RE: OpenELEC Testbuilds for RaspberryPi Part 2 - popcornmix - 2014-02-09

(2014-02-08, 10:35)vprasinos Wrote: The new build r17666 as I see does include popcornmix's fix [rbp/omxplayer] Never trust pts in avi files . However, I don't think this fix does anything on handling judder in panning camera sequences in packed bitstream files.

All previous gotham builds from milhouse deal with the judder in non packed bitstream videos (avis) quite well (judder-free) but packed bitstream ones now play with even more judder than the official 3.2.4. Raspbmc on the other hand deals with the judder very well in those packed bitstream avis and the movie is almost flawless if interlace is also enabled. It doesn't though on the non packed bitstream (it is like official 3.2.4)

So the situation is this. If I want to see a packed bitstream movie I have to use Raspbmc with interlace on and if I want to see a non packed I use milhouse's builds (interlace does not matter). I know popcornmix is up to something here but until then is there any way to rectify the problem with the current milhouse build?

Latest firmware has a more advanced scheme when used with "avoid_fix_ts=0" where it will pick the better of the two timestamp choices available (by picking the stream than minimises the variance in the period). Ideally it will fix the packed/unpacked bistream timestamp issues without causing stutter problems with files with good timestamps.

So can you update firmware and add "avoid_fix_ts=0" to config.txt.

Can you confirm:
You are using HDMI output for audio.
You have passthrough disabled.
You have speaker configuration set to 2.0
The audio is ouput from TV (rather than receiver)

RE: OpenELEC Testbuilds for RaspberryPi Part 2 - denz - 2014-02-10

I would appreciate if somebody can help me with wifi settings. I update to the latest built and on the weekend I have disabled ext4 from the usb stick and it speed up the raspberry pi. However every time I restart the pi I have to keep re-entering wifi passcode. I have searched the forums and put the passcode in the xml file /storage/.xbmc/userdata/addon_data/service.openelec.settings but it made no difference what is the correct location of the file ?

Or should I reformat everything and reinstall again ?

Thank you

Good tip! Something like this (assuming the USB stick is /dev/sda1)?:

Code:
systemctl stop xbmc
systemctl stop connman
umount /storage
tune4fs -O ^has_journal /dev/sda1
reboot

I get "Device or resource busy" when I try umount /storage.

EDIT: and tune4fs not found

did anyone ever get pass "Device or resource busy" if so how?

maybe you'll need to run "sync" before reboot in order to overwrite your changes.

I am at work, so i cannot double check, anyway i am pretty sure that:
You are using HDMI output for audio.
- I am using HDMI for audio and video

The audio is ouput from TV (rather than receiver)
- audio output is from TV (Samsung tv, couple of years old, nothing fancy)

You have passthrough disabled.
- passthrough is disabled ( i never enabled it, so unless there was some change in teh defaults it should be off)

You have speaker configuration set to 2.0
- on this i am not 100% sure what settings I used for the tests, I use indiscriminately 2.0 and 2.1

hope this helps (i'll confirm tonight)

Do a "cd /" first (without quotes of course).

ps. It's tune2fs, not tune4fs.

Try this:
fuser -m /storage

See the ID that shows and then do

kill -9 ID && umount /storage

Thanks, it seems sbin/crond was the problem (ID 242 for me).

tune2fs is doing something now, not sure how long it's going to take!

RE: OpenELEC Testbuilds for RaspberryPi Part 2 - Milhouse - 2014-02-10

New OpenELEC Gotham build: #0210
(Supercedes previous build)

Code:
# uname -a
Linux rpi512 3.13.2 #1 PREEMPT Mon Feb 10 11:22:04 GMT 2014 armv6l GNU/Linux

# vcgencmd version
Feb  9 2014 22:34:10
Copyright (c) 2012 Broadcom
version b470eb8efd7b1419c9d4260ef748762ce9b0a23d (clean) (release)

# lsb_release
OpenELEC (Milhouse) - Version: devel-20140210130141-r17688-gf1b02ea

Based on tip of XBMC master (699163e, changelog) and tip of OpenELEC master (f1b02ea, changelog) with the following modifications:
  • Includes newclock3 commits (except for a671235 which I've replaced with a static spinner)
  • Excludes the OpenELEC fernetmenta patches (due to conflict with newclock3)
  • "Show RSS Feed" default setting changed to disabled
Build Higlights:
  1. Firmware: Updated to Feb 09 release with fix for timestamp variations. For testing purposes, please add the following config.txt settings as they may help avoid some cases of video stutter, and popcornmix would like to know if they improve this, and if they cause any other issues:
    Code:
    max_clock_drift=100
    max_clock_drift_rate=100
    avoid_fix_ts=0
    See this discussion for background to first two settings, and this thread for background on the last (avoid_fix_ts).
  2. OpenELEC: ALSA drivers now enabled by default (though ALSA itself is not yet enabled in stock OpenELEC for use by XBMC - it is however enabled in this build)
  3. XBMC: Some subtitle related improvements

Additional Testing Notes:
  1. Testers should try adding the following entry to their advancedsettings.xml:
    Code:
    <advancedsettings>
      <video>
        <defaultplayer>dvdplayer</defaultplayer>
        <defaultdvdplayer>dvdplayer</defaultdvdplayer>
      </video>
    </advancedsettings>
    and report if it is better/worse than omxplayer. You can still play files with omxplayer using the context-menu "Play using... OMXPlayer".

  2. The following settings are no longer required in config.txt and should be removed:
    Code:
    no_hdmi_resample=1
    hdmi_stream_channels=1
    no_resample_audio is now a default, and hdmi_stream_channels is switched based on audio content. For the time being when using passthrough, 2.0 speaker layout should continue to be used (you will still get 5.1 with AC3/DTS).

I packed the whole thing into an Openelec addon and I'm planning to make it available soon. Just have a look at the Hyperion thread (http://forum.stmlabs.com/showthread.php?tid=11053).

I finally finished my XBMC add-on to install hyperion to Openelec systems. It's available at Github. Download the add-on as ZIP file from here . If there are any issues please pm me. I'll try to fix any issues ASAP and update the add-on if any hyperion updates are available or changes to the test builds break the installation.

Make sure you cd / first. Also, make sure you have swap disabled (if you didn't enable it, it won't be enabled, so don't worry about this.).
