There is no firmware link as the firmware is included in the tar file. The download link to the tar file is the first link in each release post. Drop the downloaded tar file in your Update folder and reboot to upgrade (assuming you're already using a Gotham-based OpenELEC build).

Is it

/storage/update

or

/storage/.update

/storage/.update

But using the directory "Update" visible from the SMB share is the usual way of updating. (It does map to /storage/.update).

I'm always curious about this, to my way of thinking Leopold's OpenELEC Dev Update Add-on is a much simpler and cleaner way to do update?

RE: OpenELEC Testbuilds for RaspberryPi Part 2 - Stilt - 2014-03-29

Just created /storage/.update folder.

Then SFTPed .tar file - Rebooted - no update

Also tried SFTPing untar folder-Rebooted - no update

What I'm I doing wrong?

Also System>File Manager>Add source>Select SMB>Update ---- I can see the FTPed file there.

thx for your tips Millhouse,
guess this was happend because i shortly restored from a very old build with a personal skin (sound) setting.

Quote: Just created /storage/.update folder
ON YOUR COMPUTER log into your Pi over SMB. You will see an "update" folder. Drag the tar file into it. Reboot.

Do not create new folders on the Pi. The update folder is already where it is supposed to be.

Just put tar file inside, don't decompess.

RE: OpenELEC Testbuilds for RaspberryPi Part 2 - Milhouse - 2014-03-29

@stilt: somehow you've managed to copy a directory rather than the tar file itself... also why are you using such an old build from 2013? Note that tar updating is only supported by builds from late 2013 (October-ish). Dunno why you had to create the .update folder either - that should have been automatically created by OpenELEC.

RE: OpenELEC Testbuilds for RaspberryPi Part 2 - abudabi - 2014-03-29

Ello.. I'm wanting to mimic my frodo setup from before with a central mysql installation for shared library access. I've just installed wsnipex's new xbmcbuntu as the master. Can I now install this build on my rPis ? Does it use the same database version?

Thanks

RE: OpenELEC Testbuilds for RaspberryPi Part 2 - popcornmix - 2014-03-29

Any recent gotham builds (since the beta version) will use the same version of database 78 for video):

So far so good. I've rebooted the pi a few times now and every time it has picked up the wifi. I'll add dwc_otg.fiq_fsm_enable=0 to the cmdline.txt to see if that helps with the drop outs.

Thanks

When playing 16bit flac files I noticed that they don't play gapless anymore. Between songs you can hear a slight plopping sound following by a very short hickup 2-3 seconds into the new song. The build from mid Jan played gapless flawlessly. I'm using HDMI. Any suggestions on what could be the cause? Are there any additional settings I need to change?

And you're definitely using paplayer for music (not omxplayer)? I've absolutely no gapless playback problems with 16-bit FLAC files via HDMI. What are your current audio settings?

How do I check what player is being used? I didn't have an advancedsettings.xml file and created one with:

<audio>
<defaultplayer>paplayer</defaultplayer>
</audio>

Is that the way to do it? What other settings would be interesting to look at?

RE: OpenELEC Testbuilds for RaspberryPi Part 2 - Milhouse - 2014-03-29

Check with the "Play using..." option in the context menu. Paplayer should be the default if you didn't already have an advancedsettings.xml.

If the visualisation works, it is paplayer. If not it is omxplayer. The log will also tell you.
Enable debugging and post a debug log (to xbmclogs.com) showing the glitch.
