RE: Bay Trail-D motherboards - fritsch - 2014-06-12

Nope. We are in development. It will come to OpenELEC when it's ready. Currently devs only.

@DDD: Yadif is still there on the CPU. The only VPP method that is working without issues is BOB, yes. Though MADI works quite fine for LiveTV on my IVB system. The burosch samples though kill it :-)

Again: AC3 and DTS are encoded over 2 PCM channels, the content is signalled "in data" - that's it.

I think you talk about DTS-HD and TrueHD which need 8 channels at 192 khz.

Yes, Windows drivers are incapable of turning off the mixer and don't expose Dolby Digital or DTS on the "Supported Formats" tab of the HDMI audio device for 'Z' series mobile baytrail.

The hardware actually supports 8 channel 192 Khz PCM but can't be used for DTS-HD or TrueHD as seen in the datasheet for the STREAM_A_LPE_AUD_CONFIG register:

Bits 3:2 - FORMAT: 00: L-PCM or IEC 61937 01: High Bit Rate IEC 61937 stream packet (not supported) 10: One Bit Audio Sample packet (not supported) 11Big GrinST Audio Sample packet (not supported)

You would need to software decode any surround formats to multi-channel PCM. The desktop motherboards discussed in this thread are different.

RE: Bay Trail-D motherboards - fritsch - 2014-06-12

Please don't mix AC3 and DTS with DTS-HD / TrueHD. I have told that now three times.

To play DTS and AC3 not a single LPCM switch is needed, only exactly 2 primitve PCM channels FL, FR are needed and that's it.

Hi, I installed Ubuntu 14.04 Lts on an Asrock Q1900-itx, but I have a problem I can't solve. the fonts are not sharp as they are on my ubuntu 12.04 (zorin 6) on my other pc?

I googled a lot but I don't know how to do it.

Anyone with Asrock Q1900-itx having the same problem?

I also tried Linux Mint 17 and it's the same. I also changed options at the hinting section, but no result.

Help please.

Edit: I found out what caused the problem with the blurry fonts. I used HDMI to connect 2 tv's (by non famous manufacturers) and the fonts were a bit blurry. Then I tried 2 other tv's (by samsung and Lg) and the fonts were sharp.

If I use VGA the the fonts are ok on the 4 tv's.

I have a small doubt. I searched the Bios in my Asrock Q1900-itx, but I don't know how to turn it off. When my computer is off, there is still some power getting out of the usb port (to the mouse and keyboard). I think it is meant for charging things like a wireless mouse, phone, etc. But I don't need it to keep on powering. Could anyone tell me the option in the bios/uefi that turns it oof completely?

Thank you very much.

Im interested in purchasing a J1800 board. which from these two will you reccomened

MSI J1800I £46.61
http://www.ballicom.co.uk/j1800i-msi-intel-celeron-j1800-2ddr3-1usb30-2usb20-gbe-lan-vga-hdmi-dvi-mini-itx-motherboard.p1024270.html?ref=PLA&gclid=CJfFgau7lr8CFVHMtAodilgA8w

Gigabyte GA-J1800N-D2H £46.05
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigabyte-GA-J1800N-D2H-Motherboard-Celeron-mini-PCI/dp/B00IM8CUSW

I REALLY like the look of gigabyte one. it also has added security of Amazon but price wise the same. plus the gigabyte one seems to have a bigger heatsink and being all black Im guessing better at heat management?

RE: Bay Trail-D motherboards - Aquarius - 2014-06-26

The MSI seems very limited as far as ports are concerned. Only 2 USB2.0 might be a problem for you. The only advandage is the DVI out but do you need it?
Otherwise, they should be practically the same. (performance, BIOS features,...)

I chose the Gigabyte, and it works fine.
EDIT: look if one of them has a port you need and not the other one (like SPDIF pins, or something like that...)

wow I'm glad I read this! I will be watching alot of sd content on my hd tv. does that mean something like a Raspberry Pi will be better quality than a board with J1800?

will a J1900 have this problem?

Do you have any of the A4-5000 Kabini motherboards over there yet? I just got one of these to give a try and I would expect the graphics to be much better than Bay Trail:

I wonder too if a C1037U might be better as well. The Intel GPU is 6 EU/350-1000Mhz.

I think 10 EUs are fine for Lanczos 3 - will tell you tonight.

So if im understanding correct a 6 EU GPU cannot do Lanczos hence C1037U will be same as a BayTrial.

is a Pi better than a BayTrial for this then?

edit: yes it is, the pi is alot better in this regard!

Shocked

RE: Bay Trail-D motherboards - Dougie Fresh - 2014-06-26

Good luck with everything else on the Pi Big Grin It does fit your cheap as possible mantra though. You could make a case for it and maybe even find a used one. You'll have to leave this thread now though Big Grin

RE: Bay Trail-D motherboards - fritsch - 2014-06-26

And btw. this comparison now is not fully fair. VPP also has some scaling algorithms implemented, that probably have a good quality, but the way on how and especially where (in xbmc code) VPP is used does not fit the general xbmc design with our renderer.

And to be honest: There is not much energy to implement something especially for those 4EU baytrails, that are cripled cause of "saving 10 dollars" ...

RE: Bay Trail-D motherboards - MediaPi - 2014-06-26

HaHa Dougie. I've already got a Pi :p but I'll I won't clutter your nice thread anymore Smile and fritsch I really dont understand what you said lol. but in your opinion can a j1800 have as good quality or close to Pi? I'll be quiet now Smile
