The NUC version with newer 2830 CPU is even not in shops yet and Intel already introduced 2840 CPU - http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Celeron/Intel-Celeron%20N2840.html
I am really not sure if I should wait for 2830 and what about now? Are the CPU issues really as noticable?

If I don't need Quick Sync Video, and I don't mind that little differences in MHz, what would you prefer? I will definetely not wait for 2840, but 2830? I have no idea when it would be in stock in Czech Republic....

Are you happy with your current HTPC? Then wait for 2830. When not, then buy the 2820

As you have seen, for the CPU and graphics, there is only a fairly miniscule (small) variation between the specs for the 2820, 2830, and the 2840! In other words, these are only very small incremental changes for all of these models.
However, the 2830 and 2840 versions both use 1333 memory though (in lieu of 1066 as used by the 2820) -so that should provide a small improvement in performance for the 2830 and the 2840 versions.
I would say that if the 2830 was due for imminent release in your area, it would be wise to wait for it –but the issue is, that it could still be some time away for any purchasers to obtain outside of the US though.
So, given the realities of supply, and depending on how long you are willing to wait, the 2820 version may still be the way to go! After all, it’s not as though there are massive differences between these models.
But of course, ultimately, the choice is yours.

I really don't know what people mean by CPU issues with the 2820.
Admittedly I have only recently jumped on the NUC 2820 train so I missed a lot of the initial teething issues, but my NUC has been rock solid since I built it with the latest updates. I've noticed that if you make changes to the BIOS after you've installed OpenELEC you'll start getting some issues with the CIR (won't power on/off via remote anymore) but apart from that....? Everything else seems to be functioning flawlessly. I still have issues with things like skins, add-on etc, but that's nothing to do with the hardware as far as I know.
If you can get a good price on a 2820 NUC and you're hesitating ... I wouldn't be too worried. As people have already mentioned, the MHz difference is miniscule; why wait?

In my case the res has changed from 1024x768 to 1360x738 (my HDTV native res in PC mode).

If you're looking for a slight boost beyond the range of DN2820/30 - I'd rather be looking at the 2930 series coming up. Quad core, double the L1 and L2 caches, and quicksync. Kicker: Its projected price range is about the same as the DN2820/2830. There's also a Pentium N3530 coming, but it'll be a bit ($50+) more expensive than the celerons.

It now uses the native resolution of the TV, 1920x1080 in my case, but yo7 have to sit really near to the TV, because the picture gets quite small. But hey, it'll work on any TV now.

I've been running my 2820 for a few months now and haven't had any issues with it. The decision to buy is yours if you want it now then get the 2820 if not wait until the 2830 comes along. You know your requirements better than anyone so if you need that little extra performance then buy the later. My box has played everything I've had, blu-rays, DVD's rips (mpeg2) and a whole host of music formats and never had any problems. If you've got nothing which is difficult to play then the 2820 will play it fine.
You can always keep waiting for the next best thing but you'll be waiting a long time as it'll always keep getting replaced.

My TV (Hitachi) is also able to show the BIOS after BIOS update 34. Hat's off to Intel for the excellent support for there nuc's.

I've just purchased and setup my this NUC but I could do with some help getting the IR receiver to work. I'm using an MCE compatible remote which works when I plug in its USB receiver but I want to use the inbuilt receiver to save a USB socket. I'm using windows 7 and have uninstalled and re-installed the intel drivers more times than I care to count but and device manager says everything is ok but I just can't get any response from the remote ever. It won't control XBMC or even launch MC. I'm starting to think that the remote isn't compatible despite the fact the it works through its own receiver that it came with, maybe its not RC6?
any sugestions welcome

I had the same problem as you. It sounds like your remote isn't RC6. Here is a $6 remote I bought on ebay, and it works perfectly with the built-in IR receiver on the NUC 2820.

I want to install steam on my NUC which is running Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit. I keep running into issues with dependencies that I just can;t fix. I've tried various solutions posted on the Ubuntu forums and askubuntu, without sucess. The error I get is:
steam:i386 : Depends: libgl1-mesa-dri:i386 but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libgl1-mesa-glx:i386 but it is not going to be installed
I am wondering whether this is because I have the wsnipex/mesa ppa installed? Has anyone else succesfully installed steam on this device?

Why do you think it is limited? I'm using 2x 300's and a 600 to control my 2820 running oE 4.0.
Works perfectly setup as MCE remotes. Full IR control including powering on/off.
I have had another go with the hormony 300i setup as Microsoft xbmc, I still can't get it to bring up the contex menu or the video info, both are mapped in the harmony software. Other than that it is working well but I need to get these last ones working to replace the flirc dongle.
