Take Pity on Noob Needing Basic Help - eightball298 - 2014-03-08

Hi All,
I've recently taken the plunge and setup a brand new Matricom G-Box MX2. I already have an Apple TV, and need a media box for a 2nd TV. Increasingly disillusioned with Apple products (annoyed I couldn't jailbreak ATV3), I thought I'd give XBMC a try. I spent nearly 3 hours last night trying to set this thing up and made exactly zero progress. I mean, everything I tried just didn't work. Before I throw my hands up and exchange it for a second Apple TV, I thought I'd cry for help here.
  • Airplay doesn't work
  • Tried to install an iPad app (XBMC Touch) to control the XBMC remotely, but that didn't work either - couldn't connect the device
  • Video add-ons I tried:
    • Amazon Prime
    • HBO Go
    • Epix HD
    • Free Cable

For ALL of the video add-ons, every time I tried to watch a video, I get a script.failed error. Initially I thought one of my add-ons might just be broken, but this is happening for ALL of them. They can't all be broken, so I have to be doing something wrong. I'm starting to miss the Apple product, where you turn it on and it just works. I expected this to be a little more effort in terms of setup, but I didn't imagine it would be this difficult. The Android interface in general is going to take some getting used to, but I have to be missing something simple.

Any troubleshooting advice would be appreciated!

you'll need to provide debug log (wiki)

Also possible you are using a Gotham build and those addons still haven't been updated and are currently only supported in Frodo.

Does this help at all?

http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=146203

I was able to view one video on the Discovery Network...but everything else errors out. Free Cable, Amazon, Movie Trailers on IMDB, etc.

Even if I can muster the patience to learn enough to get some of these add-ons to work, I must get Airplay to function. That'd be a deal-breaker for me. I have it turned on but cannot get it to work from my Macbook Air or any iOS device. Nada. On some devices the target name shows up (not the iPhone), but it just won't connect. Anyone have any tips for troubleshooting that?

Thanks so much for taking a look and your willingness to help. I really do want this to work out, but I really didn't expect a learning curve this steep.

Whoops, I don't think my last reply got posted...anyway, the latest is that I tried to upgrade to 12.3 from 12.0...but I keep getting that error about the signature already being in use. All I could find online about the issue was that it's best to uninstall the old app before trying to install a newer version of the same...but I wasn't sure if that was such a good idea in this case. I'd saved the install package to an SD card and I have the 'install unknown apps' thing set, but I still can't figure it out. Is there a trick that I'm missing? BTW, I do have it connected to my LAN via ethernet now, but Airplay is still useless.

Not sure about the others, but the Amazon Prime XBMC add-on got killed when Amazon added some additional DRM to their video service.
