RE: Amazon Fire TV for XBMC - cstark27 - 2014-04-10

Here's my test info:
Image

Don't pay attention to the audio on these. Background noise was interfering.
SPMC 12.3.3: http://youtu.be/CjhisCj68As
SPMC 12.4.1: http://youtu.be/daSV9YEA24Q
XBMC For Ouya 12.3.2: http://youtu.be/clvmZfpeGVQ
xbmc-20140406-7d16fc2-fixamcoutput-armeabi-v7a: ("vid 4") http://youtu.be/YQm9ZBMGRy0 ("vid 5") http://youtu.be/EOTvB0V445g
xbmc-20140408-492e29a-master-armeabi-v7a: http://youtu.be/dSdGiIFWJJM

I downloaded the 2 xbmc-2014... builds from XBMC's test-build folder and couldn't duplicate jtr2006's results.

Also, it has been asked about getting to other apps from XBMC. That is possible. You just go to the Programs tab, click on Android apps and your installed apps show up. We just need a way to boot into XBMC on startup. Pressing the back button out of Netflix/Hulu goes back to XBMC (but also kills the app). "Amazon Video" doesn't go to anything so that kind of stinks. With a skin like Bello, you can set a custom button to one of your "favorited" apps.

In summary, XBMC for Ouya should work for me for now, to the point I can start customizing it all to my liking. Big Grin

I'm trying to follow wiki directions for installing XBMC, but how do you do this...

Quote:Copy the complete path of the platform-tools, and add it to your PATH environmental variable in Windows System Properties

I can see the path as something like C:\Users\hdmkv\Downloads\adt-bundle-windows-x86-20140321\adt-bundle-windows-x86-20140321\sdk\platform-tools

But, how do I do the 2nd part? Thanks.

By the way at least in terminal on my Mac I can go and do adb install and just drag the app up into terminal and it inputs the whole path for me.

dont know what to tell you but this IR receiver works fine for me on my Fire TV: http://www.amazon.com/Ortek-Windows-Infrared-Receiver-Ultimate/dp/B00224ZDFY

That remote just emulates a keyboard. Its not a genuine mce rc6 remote. So it would work since android just sees it as a keyboard.

Has anyone been able to get the "Back" option to work using IR? I went the Ortek route and I can't get back to work via my Harmony Touch or the Ortek.

I sideloaded an app called Llama. It is an automation app similar to Tasker or AuotmateIt. I set XBMC to launch 5 seconds after the box booted up, and it worked just fine. Tasker is more advanced, AutomateIt is easier, and Llama is kind of in the middle. I don't see a 'key' detection on Llama to say, go to the Amazon home when the mic is pressed, and open XBMC when the Home button is pressed, but maybe with Tasker.

This is super exciting....Tasker should be able to do more. It will be great if someone can try Tasker and post a working Tasker script.

I'm using an Ortek and programed my Menu button as "Browser" and Exit button as "Clear". Browser takes you back out to the FireTV home screen and clear acts as back.

I couldn't get the Tasker trial to install, nor do I possess the ability to transfer the secure app anywhere. I played with Llama some more, and can effectively get it to launch XBMC when I press home (though it still shows the Home for a second), and if I played with Android Intent some, could maybe get it to go back to the main XBMC window instead of just where it was last at. Just be careful if you start messing with these kinds of things, and remember that when you are in XBMC, you can use the Programs to launch an Android App if you lock yourself out of the Home...

Has anybody been successful in remapping the fastforward and rewind buttons? I can get mine to do the same thing, but not different things Sad
