Backdrop image quality problems - Armitage - 2014-04-17

I installed the twitch addon and made a quick backdrop image for it in photoshop. Nothing special, i just wanted something other than the standard addon one. I am using the Aeon MQ5 skin.

The image quality of the image becomes noticeably worse when XBMC shows it. The glow on the outside of the twitch logo shows a noticeable degradation in quality and the transition from purple to black is more step-wise than smooth. Can i fix this in some way with settings inside XBMC or by changing the image?

Found a good way to compare between the two so no one has to actually download the images: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/70828

This makes it easy to see the problem.

I can see the issue you describe.

1) Are you using Gotham?

2) Do you have 16-235 set up in the options?

3) If you using an AMD GPU, which of these are you using?

YCbCr 4:4:4
YCbCr 4:2:2
RGB 4:4:4 Studio Limited
RGB 4:4:4 Full

Does your TV accept full RGB colour?

RE: Backdrop image quality problems - Armitage - 2014-04-17

I am indeed using Gotham beta 3, recently changed from Frodo and did a clean install.

No, i do not have limited color range enabled but i tried it and the only thing it did was make everything look black look grey.

I am using a Intel D34010WYK NUC with an integrated i3 processor and no discrete GPU, and i am running Windows 7 x64.

Too be honest i have no idea about full RGB if it was not linked to the AMD question - my tv is a Sony KDL-52W4500 and my receiver is a Onkyo TX-SR806. The colour space is set to "wide" in the settings on the tv. Scratch that, it is now set to standard.

EDIT: I've turned on 16-235 now and tweaked my tv settings a bit and i can see that this is more correct than before. Problem is the splash screen look like this now http://imgur.com/62bScMV . Also this doesn't change the original problem.

Make sure the Onkyo 806 is set to passthrough to avoid altering the image.

It is a bit better since i tweaked the settings on my tv, but not completely good. The receiver was already set to passthrough.

My biggest new problem is as i said in the above post that the splash screen now looks very strange. This only shows when i have 16-235 enabled, when it is disabled it is normal.

I would trust the black level on the background, more than the image. I don't have splashscreen enabled so I can't see if mine does that.
