Same network - transfering files speed is 330KB/s! Weird or normal? - benyben123 - 2014-05-01

Hello.
Ok I am more of a novice so bare with me Blush

My RasPi is connected to my router. My HDD is also connected to my Router.
On my Windows 8 Laptop, I am connected via WiFi.
I added the network location of the HDD. I am able to see the content.
But when I copy-paste a file from my Laptop to the HDD (the one connected to the router, that is), the speed is 250KB/s.
Now I might be off here, but this seems wrong! Isn't it suppose to be faster?

As I side note, I remember a friend of mine telling me that the transfer rates of such network config should be blistering fast!

Really appreciate your feedback on this.
Thanks a lot.

What speed do you get wired ?
Just to test it's not a Wi-Fi issue.
Personally I don't like the speed you get from usb on a router.
Also depends what kind off router you got.

I am missing the point where this is related to XBMC or the RaspBerry PI? edit: moved

main problem could be the usb port of your router. Is it USB 1 oder 1.1, 2.0?
most router dont have fast enough CPU for transfering files over USB
