Output 2.0 to tv and 5.1 to amp possible ? - newstuart - 2014-06-05

Hi guys

Possibly a simple answer to this but I'm struggling to find it.

At present I have my windows 8.1 htpc connected via hdmi to my av receiver/5.1 speaker set up which is then connected to my tv via hdmi

I would like the ability to switch between using the tv speakers in 2.0 and the amp with 5.1

The reason for this is I work from home directly above the tv room and my wife/kids play kids programs during the day, the base from which with the full surround system makes work difficult

Unless I'm missing something, this would have to be a feature of the AV receiver rather than of XBMC, I think. I don't think there's anything that XBMC can do to the audio to indicate to the receiver that it needs to be "passing" it through to the TV.

It strikes me that the simplest solution is just to ask your wife/kids to turn it down (or at least turn the bass down)!

If the receiver has pass through standby them just shut off the receiver and the tv will process the sound.
