Reset all databases and reset all setting with warnings !!! - mohamedselim - 2014-06-30

Add option in expert setting to reset all databases to zero state as if it is a fresh install or it could be split as reset pictures database, reset music database and reset video database and a warning message follows that indicate it is about to reset to zero
Also add option in expert setting to delete all thumbnail cash
Also add option as reset all setting of Xbmc to zero state and a warning message follows that indicate all setting is about to be reset yes or no
Thanks alot

You can already reset the settings, on a per-subject base, in XBMC 13 and higher.

To clear the database: remove your sources, then clean the database.

Would be nice to have a "Restore all to factory settings" button available for master reset under expert setting. Such an factory reset and wipe option should reset everything to how all settings are on a fresh installed of XBMC.

Steel warning text from wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Factory_reset
Quote:A factory reset, also known as master reset, is a software restore of an electronic device to its original system state by erasing all of the information stored on the device in an attempt to restore the device’s software to its original manufacturer settings. Doing so will erase all of the data, settings, and applications that were previously on the device. This is usually done to fix a software issue that the device is facing, but it could also be done to restore the device to its original settings. Since a factory reset entails deleting all information stored in the device, it is essentially the same concept as reformatting a hard drive. Pre-Installed applications and data on the card's storage card (such as a MicroSD card) will not be erased. A factory reset should be performed with caution, as it destroys all data stored in the unit. Factory resets can often fix many chronic performance issues such as freezing and will not remove the device's operating system.
This would especially good to have on appliance devices that only uses XBMC as its only interface, like set-top boxes based on XBMC, or an HTPC with OpenELEC.

Erase all user data, set skin to default, wipe all none pre-installed addons, and clean cache similar to the "Factory Data Reset" wiping function on iOS devices and Android phones that you normally use before you sell your device.

Purpose: Common reasons to perform a factory reset include:
* To fix a malfunctioning electronic device
* To remove a file or virus that is difficult to remove
* To clear the configuration and settings of the electronic device to the default settings
* To clear the memory space on the electronic device
* To remove personal information from the device before selling the device

Indeed. OpenELEC has such an option and it's really nice to have for people who don't know how to manually clear out the files. Some kind of option, an expert-level setting maybe, with appropriate warnings, would be nice to have in Kodi for all platforms. This would be nice for testing, uninstalling, or for when people are not sure what else to do and want a nuclear option :)

It's a very useful idea. maybe with also a bunch of options grouped under the same menu:
Clear video database
clear music databaase
clear addons
clear settings
clear cache
clear all

I disagree. Kodi has enough options. A total rest should be a total rest. If you add a bunch of possibilities you add more support. On everything I buy a total reset is a reset. No need to confuse the matter.

Selectively clearing the video and music DBs is actually not a bad idea. Not sure on the rest.

It can be a single option with a dialog that let you choose what you want to clear with everything selected by defaul like in every browser.

As part of http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=229648&pid=2036219#pid2036219 I agree that a general factory type reset should exist, not just for the options but for all userdata, essentially just rename the userdata (make a backup) and restart kodi. You dont need a ton of options no matter how much granular control would be ideal for many reasons.

Pretty standard option for any consumer device, so yeh its a good idea.
