How much work would it be to add a "use personal API key" option in the settings, with if selected pop-up box or entry line to enter your own YouTube API key to be used in place of the new default one (or pool of them, if that ever got implemented)?

At the moment the default new API key is working fine, but I fear once we get a repo upload and everyone starts using it we'll risk being back in the situation of API key overload and quota limits again. So it would be perhaps useful to allow the use of individual personal API keys without having to hack the add-on to enter them manually (and to repeat doing so every time it updates).

it's easy to add personal key in setting files, but it is not easy to input such a string as "AIzaSyAaDrlCyfrLe5sDXlYluPROB0Hsl2YwTPA" correctly

RE: YouTube (IMPORTANT - READ FIRST POST) - alexcan - 2016-03-04

Are we still struggling with the API key issue after 100 pages discussion?

Now I have a new issue.

After 2 years super smooth and excellent playing, recently I found Kodi Youtube need very long buffer time to play 720P video.
It doesn't happen every time but quite often now.
no this kind of issue on SD video.
it seems only exist on my android box which chipset is AMLogic S802, Android 4.4, and Kodi is 14.2
anyone have any idea?
thanks

RE: YouTube (IMPORTANT - READ FIRST POST) - quan3t - 2016-03-04

how do I force a relogin/activate? I install version .1 from Kolifanes after I deleted my data folder but am still running into issue. When I open my saved playlist it gave me error. I have the Sign Out enabled in setting but I don't see the button to sign out. Thanks

RE: YouTube (IMPORTANT - READ FIRST POST) - jdf76 - 2016-03-04

oh, i misunderstood. once you delete the folder you'll just have the sign-in option. also if you go to addon and and highlight the youtube plugin you can hit C and then select addon settings, that should take you back to the setup.

Even after I delete the data folder, it doesn't give me option to sign in/out.. I ran the setup wizard but all it ask for is the language and region.

RE: YouTube (IMPORTANT - READ FIRST POST) - jdf76 - 2016-03-04

ok lets just go all the way then, Lets delete

$KODI/userdata/addon_data/plugin.video.youtube folder

$KODI/addons/plugin.video.youtube

restart kodi.

What that will essentially do is delete youtube from your system completely.

Then reinstall the plugin from https://github.com/Kolifanes/plugin.video.youtube/releases

you should be gold at that point, if it still doesn't work go ahead and get the kodi.log file.

Is it possible to add the github as a repo or is that a negative??

It is possible, that's how the Quasar add-on updates itself.

RE: YouTube (IMPORTANT - READ FIRST POST) - TMonte87 - 2016-03-05

I usually add repo by file..Is there another way??

Just wanted to say thanks. I know this was meant to another person, but my YouTube addon refused to play Live streams and showed other odd symptoms. Doing this worked great for me, as Kodi refused to uninstall YT as other addons depend on it.

RE: YouTube (IMPORTANT - READ FIRST POST) - jdf76 - 2016-03-05

I think the owner of the github has to create the repo if i'm not mistaken and i couldn't answer that for him.

Yup, world has changed / moved forward. Media centers have gone from being only for the bedroom coders and hackers who can cope to mainstream and the average Joe.
I suppose you don't have a spouse or children who can't download a zip and patch software addons by hand. I know it's open source and not your fault, but constantly babysitting / maintaining something isn't cool, it's just annoying. That being said, YouTube addon has been stable for a long time.

RE: YouTube (IMPORTANT - READ FIRST POST) - DarkHelmet - 2016-03-05

This might be an unrealistic idea but has Google ever been approached with providing an addon for Kodi? Kodi made it to the play store so they might have a general idea about it even though play store and youtube are different departments.

RE: YouTube (IMPORTANT - READ FIRST POST) - nickr - 2016-03-05

Youtube would probably want to include the ads.

RE: YouTube (IMPORTANT - READ FIRST POST) - DarkHelmet - 2016-03-05

Yeah. I could live that if that's the price of a stable and reliable addon. I mean adds are after all part of the business model of youtube.
