looks interesting. wish it had a little more storage and RAM for that price, and a GigaBit NIC

Some discussion in the CNX Software thread on this box that it may not support HD Audio bit streaming as it is based on a Tablet SoC?

This would be perfect if it had gigabit ethernet ,usb 3.0, and msata ssd rather than integrated storage. Still, pretty solid device for just playback.

Gige and USB 3 are unnecessary for an htpc.

Maybe for you, but not for everyone.

What are you thinking of streaming at over 100Mbps?

So Is an I7 but it helps. I like to have my main xbmc machine be my media server.

Depends what you use your HTPC for. I quite often use my living room HTPC as a convenient way of copying media my server (which is in a not so convenient location) via a cabled network connection (rather than using WiFi). USB3 and GigE make this a lot speedier than USB2 and 100Mbs Ethernet.

This isn't a server. It doesn't even have a hard drive.

Which is why I would want it to have usb 3.0. Share an external hard drive or two.

Audio
Analog Stereo output
Digital 8-ch via HDMI

The audio system used in Baytrail-T was designed specifically for tablets. The driver only supports PCM output. This means you need to decode surround formats in software and then down-mix to stereo or up to 8-channels of PCM. There is no way to pass-through or bitstream any surround formats like AC3 or DTS. Does not matter if HD audio or not.

All Windows 8.1 Baytrail tablets with HDMI out have the same limitation. Audio on Baytrail-D or Baytrail-M is better suited for media player use - at least it supports full bitstreaming in Linux and non-HD bitstreaming in Windows.

Would this apply on linux too?
