Converting my Old HTPC - Czarified - 2014-09-11 Hey guys! I've been using XBMC/Kodi off and on for about 4 years now. A while back I bought an Asus Revo 3700 to use as an HTPC. I installed Windows on it and it ran decent for a while. As time went on, the whole system has slowed to a crawl and I'm tired of messing with it. I looked into upgrading the RAM, but apparently the Revo's are special and need a certain type of ram to work. Eventually I will upgrade completely and build a nice system, but for now I'm wondering if I could install OpenElec and wipe the Windows to increase the overall performance. To be clear, I store all my media on an external HD and connect it through a USB 3.0. I don't do anything else with the computer but run Kodi. Would changing the OS and wiping Windows see me a performance boost? I haven't messed with Linux much, but if this is as simple as it seems it's well worth it! RE: Converting my Old HTPC - Ned Scott - 2014-09-11 Most likely, yes. OE runs very well on older and/or low power computers. RE: Converting my Old HTPC - nickr - 2014-09-11 If you don't want your R3700 I'll consider buying it They make fantastic XBMC machines. I use OpenELEC on mine. They only have 2GB RAM.
