No more support CrystalHD - vaslobas - 2014-10-08

I recently found that CryatalHD support will be dropped in a new release of XBMC.

It's sad, cuz i'am using macbook core 2 duo + BCM970015 + XBMC and it's working like a charm.

OSX 10.6-10.7. Don't remember exactly.

Doesn't really sound like this is the fault of the Kodi develpment team
Quote:This is due to the lack of a maintainer for the driver software. If new maintainer(s) arise to the occasion, support might be added back in officially

I made a plea to leave it in for v14, but the decision was to remove it. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me either.

Its complete crap and a kick in the face for Apple users by the some on the KODI team.

This little card works, I'm not sure what needs to be done to maintain it.
Anyone card to explain ?

Have you read post #5? Clearly not.

While I would have liked to see it stay in, I understand and respect the decision to remove it. I don't think it was meant to be a slap in anyone's face. It was something that was broken on most Windows and Linux installs, and the last time anyone had used it on Mac OS X it used to have a slow memory leak that would crash XBMC. Even if the drivers on the OS-level were working fine, I was told that the way it was implemented in XBMC/Kodi needed to be improved. That might actually happen in the future, as there has been some interest from others about taking over support, but if that actually happens remains to be seen.

Could it have been left in? Sure, but it was on death row, and it was a reasonable move to take it out at this point.

Thanks Ned, that clears up what I was suspecting.

I suppose we will see what the future brings then.

RE: No more support CrystalHD - nozomi - 2014-10-18

I've been thinking about this lately and I would hate to be stuck on gotham when 14 is stable. Is it possible to compile your own version of xbmc with the old chd code in it?

CrystalHD is working great on my system so it would be nice to at least have the possibility to compile it on my own.

RE: No more support CrystalHD - nickr - 2014-10-18

Anything is possible, but you will need to work out what was removed from the XBMC source tree to rip out support for CrystalHD, then work out how to put it all back given that the source from where the code was ripped, may have changed, and that there may be other implications.

In other word you'll probably have to be familiar enough with the XBMC codebase to be invited to the dev team to maintain this functionality.

It is quite likely that the only acknowledgement you will get is wrxstacy or someone of his mindset telling you that "Its complete crap and a kick in the face" when your life changes and you can no longer support your code.

Thanks for the positive words. ^^ Wink

Actually rereading my post makes me think I should reinforce that I am not trying to discourage you. Go for it.
