You are to old to installed xbmc for windows (a simply executable) or xbmc-live which does all the work for you (just by a ms remote) but you are to to old to hack a PS3 or Xbox 360?

Installing xbmc on a ubuntu install or just installing xbmc-live is easier for me than buying whatever parts are needed to hack my ps3. Also, I don't have to worry about an update bricking my computer or rendering whatever hack I was using useless.

That is not the problem. The problem is XBMC's OpenGL interface. Unless someone can hack MESA to run on the SPUs it won't run XBMC's interface.

Hello : is that project can help ? http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/

HT Frontend for ps3 & media streaming to my PS3 - jcl3042 - 2010-12-31 23:17

I am planning on using my ps3 as my HT head. I was hoping to use xbmc as my frontend is there a way to install it on my ps3 without hacking the console? Will I be able to stream my movies from my PC to my PS3? If I can't use xbmc is there a frontend somewhere that can be used instead?

I know XBMC cannot be used for PS3 and probably never will be, there are other items available for PS3 streaming but I have never researched a PS3 so I'm no help there.

There is a app called 'PS3 Media Server' - which is a java application you run on a server and allows your PS3 to access your media files.

It is no place near as nice a XBMC... I'm currently using it until I finish my network at which time I'll switch over to my XBMC frontend.

Probably a ways off, but it looks like they found a way to hack the PS3 with Linux again:

I have heard before that developers didnt want to go back to consoles but the new hacks that exposed private keys for the ps3 make things interesting. I cant recall a console private key ever being found before.

It wouldnt require hacks to install and use because we can sign things ourselves. I just find this very exciting because the potential install base is in the millions and packaged correctly could be user friendly to install.

Hopefully the open sdks advance enough to support the hardware graphics accelleration. the idea of having to compile with leaked sdks is unsavory. i personally think native game os type homebrew would superior to a linux based solution but of course would require much more work.

anyway I am curious if any devs are interested in the ps3 as a viable platform now that essentially the keys to the kingdom have been found?

XBMC for PS3? - sanitarium09 - 2011-01-04 05:23

As many are no doubt aware by now, the PS3 has been completely compromised with the root key being made available to the public and no way for Sony to patch it without breaking all games/software currently available. So with that, what are the chances of a PS3 port of XBMC in the future? I think the system would the ultimate solution for XBMC with an install base in the millions and the low cost of very powerful hardware.
