Player video not good quality - claudioita - 2015-04-05

Hi,

I have the following configuration:
- Intel NUC 5i3
- WIndows 8.1
- Kodi 14
- Videos taken from GoPro in fullHD

When I play the videos on a laptop attached to the TV they run perfectly (using windows media player)
WHen I play them through a Chromecast they ran in perfect colour, but understandably it stutters (big files)
WHen I use MED6003XD they ran perfectly

When I use Kodi player the video is way over exposed, also colours are not reproduced in the nice quality that the GoPro gives

How to fix that on the Kodi? Change player?

In any case it should be part of the Kodi program itself. Kodi is a media player that has a subpar video player, and you have to add another one ....HuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuh??

RE: Player video not good quality - claudioita - 2015-04-05

I don't understand ... I have to do all this?

Instructions:
Run the Kodi installer to overwrite existing copies of Kodi on your system and replace with the integrated DS Player.
Place the completed mediasconfig.xml and filtersconfig.xml from the DSPlayer Starter Kit in the following location:
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Kodi\userdata\dsplayer.
Move the included playercorefactory.xml from the DSPlayer Starter Kit to:
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Kodi\userdata.
Install LAV Filters: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=156191
Install AV Splitter: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/AV-Splitter
Install XySubFilter: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=168282
*You must install the XySubFilter Beta2 (32-bit) .zip Archive to use with DSPlayer.
To install XySubFilter, extract to Program Files, right-click "Install_XySubFilter.bat" and select "Run as Administrator."
Install madVR: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=146228
*To install madVR, extract the zip file to the Program Files directory and run the "install.bat."
Optional – Install ReClock: https://forum.slysoft.com/forumdisplay.php?85-ReClock
Launch LAV Video, LAV Audio and LAV Splitter from the Start Menu and configure to your personal hardware.
Play a test video and configure madVR. Test the performance of your settings using Cntrl+J.
DSPlayer Installer

ANy more simple solution like: click this button and you have this player up and running?

Re: Player video not good quality - nickr - 2015-04-05

No you don't have to do that. Try giving the output of mediaplayer on a problem file. Someone may be able to say what the problem is.

Subpar? Plays everything I throw at it (including GoPro videos) flawlessly. Chances are it's your setup.

RE: Player video not good quality - Warner306 - 2015-04-06

He said the video quality is not great. The standard Kodi player is very plug and play in this respect. Maybe the video is not a standard HD resolution like 1920 x 1080 or 1280 x 720? This would lead to subpar results when scaling. The best you can do with the Kodi player is DXVA scaling with 8-bit processing. If this doesn't look good to you, try the solution posted. It takes some tweaking, but at least your conscience can rest assured your computer used all the processing tricks available to it to improve the picture.

An over-exposed image might mean you have "Use a limited color range" selected in System - Video output. Most people are okay with DXVA scaling. Check that DXVA-HD is set for Render method under Video - Acceleration.

Try these steps.
Update Intel graphics drivers to latest version.
Disable all video enhancement in drivers settings.
Try both enable / disable limited range in system/video output.

RE: Player video not good quality - Jogee - 2015-04-06

Ya, the picture is definitely over saturated and way too bright. It looks like the video driver is adjusting the video. This makes sense if you say that the same thing happens with Plex.

I agree with oldpoem's suggestion. Go into the Intel Graphics control panel and in the video section set everything to application settings and turn all the enhancements off.

Will try, but I play on the same NUC with windows media player and kodi, why would it be different between the two players (WMP and KODI)?

RE: Player video not good quality - barenaked - 2015-04-06

WMP doesn't decide the color range, kodi does.
If you want kodi to decide tell the Intel driver to "application controlled".
