I also tried a mpeg file and had the same problem.

Log file for interlace_test2.mpeg :

This mpeg doesn't crash the Xbox because is too short but you can check how the mem is reduced.

Not a bug report per se, but was curious: happened to play a video clip with multichannel AAC sound. My xbox is connected via S/PDIF to a Dolby Digital amp.

IIRC, in previous xbmc versions the multichannel AAC sound was transcoded by xbmc on the fly to analog stereo. With the experimental mplayer.dll build I *think* it was played back in multichannel Dolby Digital.

Does the new mplayer provide AAC X.Y -> Dolby Digital X.Y on the fly transcoding?

Apologies, but I'm a bit ignorant when it comes to the state of what was added/improved on xbmc for the last year or so. I just enjoy it Smile

old should do it too.

that makes little sence, it's only that rmvb file that exhibits that problem and only with the new mplayer.dll? if so could you provide me a sample?

So sorry for uploading the sample file for a long time.
You can get the test rmvb file in the following url
http://www.badongo.com/file/2142748

This file has two sound tracks,as it can works well in the old mplayer version, but not in the newest build.
Also it can't play directly but need to choice the play as funtcion to play.

Tried the new mplayer.dll both the "old" one and the new one with the February 01st 2007 Svn Rev7767 Build, compiled by T3CH. I'm suddenly having problem with files like these: Prison.Break.S02E15.HR.HDTV.AC3.5.1.XviD-NBS.avi
The sound stutter almost every 5 seconds. And if I place the same file on the local disk instead through the SMB share, the stuttering is a little better, but every 10 seconds or something like that. Nothing helps, tried no cache, setting resolution from 720p to 480p, turned every "extras" off, tried "analog" instead of digital etc etc. Any idea someone?

It's the file that is fucked, try with old mplayer and you'll see.
it's an OpenDML&/interleaving issue, which can be remedied by remuxing it as oldformat AVI (1.0) by using eg. Avi-Mux Gui

- krl69 - 2007-02-02

You mean the avi file is fucked? because I have seen this in at least 2 other files lately...

- krl69 - 2007-02-02

And if I run it on my PC with VLC, no stuttering at all...

- pike - 2007-02-02

were the other 2 files -NBS rips aswell ? otherwise, info is key here, the more info, the better I can help. And try what I suggested!

- ultrabrutal - 2007-02-03

Yeah that NBS rip is messed up somehow. It stutters with normal MPlayer dvd also and it's not because of frame drops

- Maverick-DBZ- - 2007-02-03

As some have you have guessed or already know NBS is a TV scene group.

Most of there encodes are always like that on XBMC so it's a real pain dealing with there downloads somethings. They work fine on PC though but most people prefer to play them on XBMC. Nod

My question would be is there anyway around it to force AVI 1.0 or demuxing the only remedy? I don't mind doing it just wondering if it's at all possible with all the things that XBMC already has to do to play the file. Eek

- do0d - 2007-02-03

I've noticed that H264 streams from http://www.tvnettet.com have an audio delay on the xbox, but are fine when played on the PC. This was also the case before I jumped to this new one, but thought I'd give it a try since it addressed H264 issues.

The H264 streams at http://www.streamtvnow.com do not seem to have this problem at all.

This isn't an exact science, all I know (which I only learned recently) is that if it's badly interleaved, there's MUCH MUCH more seeking needed.
Because audio and video isn't interleaved, then the player must read a chunk of video, seek to end of file, then read a chunk of audio, seek back to video (beginning of file)<repeat>. This might work flawlessly with standard HDTV rips, but with HRHD, it get's too much for us to handle. If it's also RARRED, then there's ANOTHER layer that slows it down further.

copy this files to xbox hdd , and close hdd video cache (set to zero) can play Prison.Break.S02E15.HR.HDTV.AC3.5.1.XviD-NBS.avi smooth

i notice play this moive xbmc cache will refill when stutter come.

- Giraff - 2007-02-03

I remuxed it with VirtualDub, that fixed it for me. I used Preload 96 ms of audio before video starts, interleave audio every 96 ms.
