BBB, you should be creating .backups and any of the .dat files in plugin_data. not the plugins folder

Slow? - adam_the_1st - 2010-01-07 05:35

Is anyone else finding the SVN Installer to be ridiculously slow lately?

I mean its unbearable I can barely install anything because I can't tell it it has registered my key presses or not.

But the thing is that I can see it. Everything look correct. I can even update it The problem is that it does not find any plugins under e.g. xbmc-addons->plugins->video.

Btw, I have tried XBMC zone installer as well, but have no issues with that one.

I loved this plugin when it was first released. I still love the functionality it provides, but because of its time consuming nature, Its becoming a pain.

Any chance this plugin could be updated to actually run in the background at startup, just like the weather plugins? I think it would be a wonderful addition to have it automatically look for updates and apply them in the background. This would really change perception of run time and really make for a great auto-update feature.

Thanks for the consideration.

I guess, that slowness might be due to high usage of repository or slow network connection. I might have a better look later on that, but at the moment I have not enabled tcpdump, so no idea, how data is actually moving. I just installed the plugin myself and yes, it seems slow, but it very often is the case, when accessing remote repository. But repository paths are configurable...

So I might install svn for my htpc and mirror the repositories, then accessing the repository would be really fast. Or then again mirrored svn repository could be on nas and it could update itself at night.

After a discussion on trac with Nuka it turns out that this SVN is not the "Official Online Repository" and is infact nuka's own personal SVN and not related to TEAM XBMC at all ( You can find the descussion here http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/6672 )
Since this is the case I am changing the topic title from
"New Official Online Repository for all open source plugins (with a public SVN)"
to
"Nuka's Personal Online Repository for all open source plugins (with a public SVN)"
And unpinning the topic in this section.
Hopefully soon TEAM XBMC will create a new official one, we are still undecided if we need it since the new file mirrors will be hosting the end product scripts and skins with its own installer. But I personally believe it would be nice to still have a common place where all you great coders can host their code in 1 place.

You are off course free to continue to use Nuka1195's repo if you wish, but Even though Team XBMC thought we owned it and it was official (just created by nuka when he was a team member) it turns out we were wrong.

Renamed the thread to be slightly less suggestive.

@Nuka1195: Thanks again for all the work on setting this up, and all the work on all the many of awesome scripts you've written or helped with.

Apologies for thinking that the repository belonged to XBMC as a whole - we'll see if we can hook up a replacement in time.

Cheers,
Jonathan

no problem jmarshall.

please no discussions in here about this. if you want to see why this all happened read this ticket, read it all, pretty boring. http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/6672

if you wish to move your plugins to xbmc's repo, that would be best probably so their installer works. but you are of course welcome to continue to use this repo. you also could create your own repo as others have done and just create a repo.xml.

i'm sure xbmc's addons installer will be much better and faster. until then this installer should still work.

What do you mean by slow? Could you be more precise? Is it during the download and install of an addon?
Is it during the loading of the list?
I suspect it is the second one, the list of addons available on the repo starts to be huge (means a lot of choice too), that means longer time to load too ...
