DVD Issue along with SPDIF issue. - f4ion1 - 2008-01-01 First of all a huge thanks to all the developers. The only reason I'm asking these questions is that I see others have them working. This is probably something I'm doing wrong but was hoping to get some insight. I am currently using MediaPortal in windows, which I despise and really would like to use XBMCLinux instead if I can just get these last two issues resolved. DVD Playback hangs Whenever I play a DVD whether it is in the DVD drive or a DVD image it simply hangs at the following screen. I have installed all of the proper DVD codecs via Automatix as far as I know. Any ideas? SPDIF Problem. I am using a MB with the Nvidia 630i chipset. I have enabled the SPDIF out through the ALSA gui. I have set XBMC to output digital. When I play MP3's I get get great 2 channel audio out of my receiver. But, when I play a movie that has 5.1 my receiver doesn't appear to receive any signal via SPDIF. Any ideas? - f4ion1 - 2008-01-01 Excert from xbmc.log regarding DVD issue. ------------------------------------------------- Code: 12:43:47 T:3044977552 M:1458388992 INFO: UDF: version 1.02 - BLKMGK - 2008-01-01 FWIW - DVD playback of VOBs from an SMB share for me ends up in a segfault which core dumps me. This is much the same with DVD in the player as of the last time I tried it a few weeks ago. I too have seen that some have it working but in my case I've chalked it up to work in progress. you seem to get further than I at least. SPID/F - I get good sound on compressed files with my system by leaving the output set for analog. Whenever I've set it for digital it hasn't worked and in fact I think I got screeches the last time. Not sure if this quirk is my underlying install or if it is XBMC. Try Analog and see how it goes - mine does output via optical. - f4ion1 - 2008-01-02 hmmmm, took your advise and did some testing. Changed it to analog and I still get SPDIF output even with videos now but it is only 2 channel instead of 5.1. I'm with ya on chalking it up to a work in progress too. But if any of you remember any tweaks you may have done to get it to work let me know. - BLKMGK - 2008-01-02 This might be something to do with the Linux install underneath XBMC, would probably be helpful to hear from others. I'm sitting on a MythTV install so much of the sound and lirc stuff was done for me with a pretty thin window manager. It's possible that there's something there that has set this up. It's also possible I'm not getting 5.1 and am too stupid to realize it - I'll try to check ;-) However since DVD not working for me I'll have to dig around for a good test vid... We still need test vids heh. - djh_ - 2008-01-02 I'll post my Linux experiences/setup in full when I get a moment. In short, though, my Shuttle box worked with 5.1 off the bat and, luckily enough, has never had a problem with DVD ISOs streamed via SMB. It was a problem when I first tried Linux XBMC (on a different comp about 3 months ago) but has since been resolved. That said, the DVD images have to be in ISO format for some reason - IMG files register as playing without actually showing up on screen. - BLKMGK - 2008-01-02 Ah, that may be why DVD work for you and not me! I rip to VOB and IFO not a single monolithic ISO. Okay, I feel better if that is the case. I'll have to find one ripped as an ISO and see how it does to verify, I think I have at least one that way. No way will I rerip everything though, I only just now finished them all :-O. - f4ion1 - 2008-01-02 djh_ Wrote:I'll post my Linux experiences/setup in full when I get a moment. Since it worked for you right off the bat.....Mind posting your hardware & Distro(ex. Ubuntu,Xubuntu, Mythbuntu,...) - gunja2k3 - 2008-01-07 BLKMGK Wrote:Ah, that may be why DVD work for you and not me! I rip to VOB and IFO not a single monolithic ISO. Unfortuntely I only know how to do this on windows with Nero. But basically burn a new DVD video to image, and then convert the nrg file to an iso. There are prolly linux utilities that allow the same thing. - f4ion1 - 2008-01-19 OK, solved the DVD issue. It was something to do with my ubuntu config. After installing Linux Mint which already has most codecs including DVD integrated I'm getting great DVD playback. I'm still fighting with the SPDIF issue though. I've crawled the forums and still can't figure out why I'm only getting 2 channel audio sent over Digital. Since the most recent builds if I set the sound option to Analog I get the 2 channel audio. If I set it to Digital with AC3 & DTS enabled I get an error on my receiver saying it cannot decode the signal. Oh, so close... - Razor_109 - 2008-01-20 I had the same problem some time ago on my Windows machine, dont know if it is any help.. but my problem seemed to lie with my settings. DTS and DD5.1 can be send trough digitalout in difrent kind of ways, but each reciever supports only some of them. For example the data can be send 'Wrapped' of 'Padded', when your setup is to send it 'Wrapped' but your reciever doesnt support that, you wont hear a thing. Seems there can be lots of reasons why Spdiff passtrough doesnt work, you do get stereo/analog sound over digitalout? and then when you play DD5.1/DTS you here nothing, or do you just get 2.0 on the reciever? Try to play with the settings, but again, i dont own a Optical-Out system yet with linux on it so i never tried it.. will get a n630i board soon too.. so then I will face the same problem i guess Only thing i know is after i played with the settings for a long time in AC3Filter i finally got it to work.. Let us know if you get any further.. think more people own this board or are planning to. - Razor_109 - 2008-01-20 No way to edit you post here i see.. well maybe a idea to install an other Mediaplayer to test whether it works in that one.. like MPlayer or some.. if it does you know it's XBMC or the config.. if it doesnt it's probably the config under Linux... Don't know if you tried this before.. Btw, are you trying to get the Spdiff working over HDMI, or just the seperate Spdiff-Out (Optical/Coax)? - BLKMGK - 2008-01-20 Hrm, I need to know more about this "Linux mint" - what's different? It looks to be a distro all it's own - gah! No way am I going to dump this install again lol. Okay MAYBE I'll backup what I've managed so far and try it. Honestly I'll be interested to see where the Devs wind up with regards to building a distro for XBMC. Now that I know others have DVD playback working, from VOB right?, I know it's my Linux setup and not XBMC. Ouch, here I thought it was the Alpha software's internal video player. Seems I might be up late again tonight! - f4ion1 - 2008-01-26 Razor_109 Wrote:No way to edit you post here i see.. I'm using the Optical out. I tried with VLC this morning. Set VLC to out put over SPDIF with a 5.1 mkv file. As long as VLC was set to Stereo it sent a perfect stereo signal to the receiver. As soon as I set it to send 5.1 my receiver acts like it isn't even receiving a signal. So it's definitely something with my Linux install and not a XBMC problem. again, I'm a fresh linux user. Been using it stedily for about 3 months now for this and on my primary pc so I'm learning more and more everyday. I'll keep testing and see if I can get it to work. Pretty soon I'll be able to wipe my Windows partition on the HTPC currently running "Mediaportal"<--Which I hate. - hrak - 2008-01-28 I'm having the same DVD playback issues as the topicstarter with a whole bunch of DVD iso's (from local disc btw) where XBMC hangs at the "buffering" screen, like the screenshot in the startpost. I can provide xbmc.log if needed. |
