EXIF (and IPTC) tag support for photos (JPG pictures) - bobmckenzie - 2004-04-30

most new digital cameras store the orientation of a photo as part of its exif data. software such as adobe photoshop album uses this information to automatically rotate the photo when viewing.

this would be a great feature to add to xbmc.

all digital pics have the "when pic is taken date" in them. would be nice if xbmc could sort them in that order. Smile

keep up the great! job.

jpg files include several useful infos like:

date / time of the picture
iso level
focal length
...

it will be useful, at least, to be able to know the date of the picture.

it's what hey call exif tags.. embedded info with the file that came from the digital camera used....

yeah.... nice to have this one too...

i like this idea too just because it sounds so damn cool maybe make it pop up like the osd for movies and music, that's just my 2 cents on this

when using the my photos, i would sometimes like to know the date/time when the photo was taken. this information is stored in exif format in the digitial photo itself.
also stored in there is usually a thumbnail. it may be quicker to pull the thumbnail from the photo than generating i.
feature suggestion is, when i press 'info' on a photo i get the exif information, if its available.

thanks for a great program!

hi,

i'd like the idea to. nice to know when a picture was taken. maybe with a press of the white button. don't think it's that hard to implement.

boellie.

a link to some (maybe) useful info and source code:
exif tags

when you take an image sideways with most cameras it stores information on the image about which way it is rotated, some programs use this information for example photoshop and the newest version of acdsee, so i think it would be nice of if xbmc could use this information and rotate the images automatically so you wouldn’t have to do it manually.. Smile

i too would enjoy this niceity. it'd also be nice if xbmc remembered how i rotated a given image the last time i viewed it, and auto rotated it like that.

where is this technique described? sounds really funky...

must be some hardware in camera that tells it up/down left/right is closest to earth

- 02xnto - 2004-12-23

i don’t really know anything else about it, but it’s an orientation sensor installed in the camera i think that most canon cameras has it.

exif data, see here http://www.abc-view.com/articles/article5.html

for that matter, why not allow xbmc to rotate the images permanently? this can be done lossless
