You need to auto start XBMC this way:

System->Preferences>Startup Appplications

On the Tab Startup Programs klik <add>

Now you have 3 input fields:

Name
Command
Comment

Name: you can choose, but XBMC would be the obvious choice.
Command: Click the <Browse> button and navigate to "File System>USR>BIN> scroll all the way down until you find a single entry called xbmc. Select it.
The line in the field Command should now read: /usr/bin/xbmc
Comment: you can leave blank.

DONE!!

I do assume you have alread got Ubuntu to login automagically. It takes a little while longer then a Live install, but it works!

sorry I dont see "System->Preferences>Startup Appplications" so I cant add xbmc to the startup apps

Sad

sorry guys this is a bit offtopic has zero to do with ppas. go here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_BpDe0tqak and here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1466177 or wherever just refrain form poluting a already complicated thread with non helpfull information regarding its original intent.

I appreciate the help, but neither of those are helpful or things I havent tried.
Guess I'll figure it out on my own or wait till Eden Live version. Oo

linux-generic linux-headers-generic linux-image linux-image-generic xbmc
xbmc-bin xbmc-live

notice when I try to upgrade from unstable ppa and xbmc will not
upgrade. It used to upgrade but no more...help please...

Hi, I have tried to avoid that "dist-upgrade" not to break
a working base system. Unfortunately that may be the way
to go.

In 10 years of using debian/ubuntu on a daily basis on multiple systems it has broken my system only once (after I added repositories of a newer version of ubuntu to my sources.list). So I think you're safe Smile

Yes, all went ok, thank You. I had some bad experiences earlier with
lirc and some other functionality.

XBMC on 11.04 - brunojcm - 2011-10-10 05:21

I tried several times to install XBMC since the Natty release and always needed a hack because natty is not on the ppa... Ubuntu 11.10 is almost out and we don't have ppa for the 11.04?

Is it true? Bug http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/11488 is being ignored?
Am I getting crazy??

If there is any problem, I would like to be aware of it and help to document it on the wiki, or even try to fix it.

Thanks!

Use the unstable PPA on natty.
