Integration of Marcel Veldts skin-specific addons into Kodi core - malvinas2 - 2018-12-24
Christmas season is the season for expressing wishes, so I propose to include a couple of tasks -which up to now are done by external addons- into the core functionality of Kodi resp. that the team takes over the further development of these addons.
First and foremost I think of the addons written by Marcel Veldt. They have become indispensable for the development of modern skins with all the almost obligatory features.
Specifically, this concerns the following addons:
- script.skin.helper.widgets,
- script.skin.helper.skinbackup,
- script.skin.helper.service,
- script.skin.helper.backgrounds,
- script.module.metadatautils,
- script.skinshortcuts,
- script.module.simplecache

Unfortunately we are lacking active members with the skills and time to do major changes to the skinning engine at the moment. I am assuming that integrating the functions provided by those addons into core code would necessitate major changes, not my area of knowledge so maybe wrong in my assumption.
