crash to desktop at startup - mrkaras - 2020-01-10
Kodi crashing just after starting, the title screen shows and I can often use a menu or two before it crashes to the desktop. if I restart the PC it works ok for a while. it seems that if I exit kodi it is unlikely to run anymore without restarting

Supported hardware (wiki) and Windows (wiki) section 2 Requirements; I think you're pushing the graphic boundaries in a laptop, if you can get into settings, try software rendering. A bit of checking selected ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 Series adapter. found this ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 Catalyst and might suggest what you're going through.

first, it is not a laptop. but more importantly it says
'ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 Series' with feature level 9300.'
isn't that better than "AMD/ATI Radeon HD 3000 Series or newer" (from the wiki) and is feature level 9300 better than the Feature Level 9.1 required? I may be able to find a radon hd 4800 or gforce gt 440 around, not much of a step up but perhaps something, if I have any spare.
I will be able to get into settings because if I restart the PC it always works, at least the once
