Any quick tip on how you made it to try to replicate on an amlogic 8726 tablet?

Hey davilla, I want to work with amlogic devices too. I am curious if you could be kind enough to take photos of the pcb geniatech gave you. I am buying one off alibaba and I would like to compare it to the one I will receive. I would also very much appreciate it if you could write some instructions and post your patches on how you got it to boot, please and thank you in advance.

I dont't think that this could be the problem in your case, the master git source should be more up-to-date, but my setup is the following:
I use a 1080p TV connected to the HDMI of my pandaboard, running ubuntu 11.04-Netbook-preinstalled version.

Thanks to the experts in the forum, I finally installed XBMC on pandaboard with ubuntu 11.04 netbook version. However, I found there is no video. When I play a video file, I hear the sound but see nothing. I can't see the pictures, either. But the files are fine out of XBMC. Did anybody meet and solve this problem?

Thanks.

I see, Did you buy that one off amazon? This is the version I have. http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/453013398/Amlogic_Contex_A9_Android_TV_Box.html . It says in the android screen it was based on the M1 reference design.

Thanks, I got a sample from http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/453013398/Amlogic_Contex_A9_Android_TV_Box.html that I will start working on, I may give it to dandel if I am unable to do much.

Do you have any video playing in the regular "ubuntu classic" session?

@davilla:
I spend some time in testing the video performance of the panda with xbmc and it's incredible bad - with the bigbuckbunny trailer as test file:
  • @1080p: <10fps
  • @720p: < 15fps
  • 480p: < 20fps
And SD-TV with PVR works with ~ 17fps.. which forces the xbmc to drop frames (~200 when playing the 480p trailer!!!). Is my configuration wrong somehow? Or do you run another resolution?

regards

EDIT:
Ok - I figured out that in case of playing the file in "originalsize" mode - without scaling -
the 480p one drops nearly no frame. Even the 720p one drops less frames than the 480p does with scaling the image to "normal". Even with scaling the CPU('s) don't need much power: ~ 13.1%|12.1% @720p. That way it seems really easy for the panda to play the 720p, but it drops the frames and I don't know why..

They have a one on amazon for 169. But since I live in china, i got one from alibaba. From alibaba if you pose as an importer, you can get a sample from 70 to 100 dollars. Just search android tv cortex a9 in alibaba and you will see a few manufactures selling various versions all with the amlogic soc. I need to solder a max3232 chip to my board now.

Any ideas what what we can expect on video playback ? 1080P ?
Is the cortex a9 dual core ?

It does have 1080p hardware decoders, dandel is more familiar with the source. And its a single core.

I would like to take the amlogic chip and turn it into a mini itx board.
