NVIDIA Shield TV 24p stuttering - RunBubbaRun - 2020-08-25

I have a new NVIDIA Shield tv tube (2019) and a new Samsung QLED QE43Q60T (60hz)
I'm running Kodi 18.
Settings used:
Shield TV is on 4k @ 60hz
Kodi is on 4k @ 60hz
Kodi setting Adjust display refresh rate to "On start / stop"
Whitelist: nothing (tried selecting all of them which made it worst)

I played the movie Greyhound which was a 4k HDR file at 23,976 fps.
The Samsung TV shows 4k HDR 24p in information. So the refresh rate should be good.
After about 25 minutes the movie starts to randomly stutter and sometimes it becomes so bad I have to stop the video and restart it from the last viewed position and then it plays fine for a few minutes.
My internet connection is 500Mbit. All cables are wired through gigabit cables and router.
1080p movies play just fine. Haven't tried 1080p at 23,976 fps yet.

I don't know if the problem lays in the Shield, Kodi or the Samsung tv . Maybe some suggestions?

Could be your source, you'd need to upload a Debug Log file which shows you playing the file.

RE: NVIDIA Shield TV 24p stuttering - RunBubbaRun - 2020-08-25

I made a debug file. But I don't know where it's located. Smile

I tried the movie directly through USB on the TV -> plays smoothly
I tried the file through VLC (with refresh tool) -> many stutters (Samsung shows 4K @24p)
I tried the file through VLC (without refresh tool) -> little stuttering (Samsung shows 4K @60hz)

RE: NVIDIA Shield TV 24p stuttering - RunBubbaRun - 2020-08-26

Also found a different problem playing a 1080p file at 29,97 fps.
It won't switch to the correct framerate. My tv shows it at 60hz meaning I get stutters.
Another 1080p file at 29,97 fps shows the correct 30hz at the TV.

This is the debugfile:

This showed VLC of the file:

60 = 30x2, same as 50hz = 25hzx2 . The TV framerate is set at the highest whenever possible.

Yes but why is the other 1080p file at 29,97 showing 30hz at my tv?
I'm new to posting logfiles. I enabled logfile debugging / restarted kodi / played the file / logfile uploaded through addon.
Do I first need to stop the debugging in system settings?

No, debugging should be on as much as possible when you are troubleshouting.

Perhaps you can try providing another kodi.log file?

RE: NVIDIA Shield TV 24p stuttering - RunBubbaRun - 2020-08-27

I now see the wrong frame rate happens with a ts file.
See information below:

It stutters playing on 60hz but when I manually change it to 29,97 fps it plays smooth.
Adjust frame rate doesn't change it to 29,97 although I have whitelisted 1080p @29,97 fps. I don't know why. Match frame rate also doesn't switch to 29,97 fps.
When I look in Kodi at the codec information it says 59,94 fps. Strange.

NVIDIA Shield TV 24p stuttering - Hitcher - 2020-08-27

To receive meaningful assistance you will need to provide a full debug log.

The instructions are here... debug log (wiki)

If you are using the Basic Method, then ensure the following is applied...
1.Enable debugging in Settings>System Settings>Logging,
2.Restart Kodi
3.Replicate the problem.
4.Upload the log to Kodi Paste Site manually or use the Kodi Logfile Uploader. (wiki) With either method post the link to the log back here.

If you are using the Advanced Method ensure you have correctly created and applied the advancedsettings.xml file (wiki)

In both instances, you should see the word DEBUG throughout the log.

Note: Full logs only. No partial or redacted logs
Do NOT post your logs directly into the forum. Use the Kodi Paste Site. Post the link to your pasted log in the forum

Current resolution: 3840x2160 3840x2160 @ 60.000004 - Full Screen

If you remove these 60.000004 hz options in the whitelist and instead just use 59.94 hz it might help by switching to the correct refresh rate, which would be 59.94hz.

RE: NVIDIA Shield TV 24p stuttering - xabito - 2020-08-27

Try to manually put shield at 4k23,976HZ (NOT 24p) and play the file in Kodi without matching frame rate setting "on". I think kodi thinks 23,976 movies play at 24p and shield can do 24p (24HZ) and also 23,976HZ. A 23.976 movie will stutter like hell if the frame rate is 24.000HZ.

I already tried 59,94 hz but stuttering remains. The original is 29,97 fps so it should switch to that. Cause I have that in the whitelist.

Manually it plays smooth at 29,97 hz. But then I have to check for every file what the frame rate is and then manually selecting that.
It's only for the .ts file that it stutters (cause on 60hz). I converted the file to mkv (at original frame rate: 29,97) and then Kodi switches the tv to 30p. And it plays the video smooth.
So must be a file type problem for kodi not recognizing the .ts file as 29,976 fps.
