I have just installed app launcher under Linux and I'm not really sure if it's working correctly. I can launcher transmission but on launching I'm pushed back out in to the Linux GUI transmission opens but then I can't get back in to XBMC? Are the application meant to launcher inside XBMC ? or just as they normally would on the desktop.

Can someone give me a hint what is wrong with my installation (Ubuntu 8.04)?
I unzipped the Launcher to .xbmc\plugins\programs and created the
symlink but everything I get is an error "python script failed." Below are parts of the Debug Log, telling: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/usr/share/xbmc/UserData

launcher not showing up - jeepguy81 - 2009-07-20

Morning all,
Just found this site over the weekend so please bear with me on any questions. Loaded XBMC 9.04 and eveything went fine, but im having an issue with the app launcher plugin. Followed the really easy instructions but when i go to add source-->browse-->program launcher, it's not there. Made sure the program directory is there as well as the launcher folder containing the script. I'm using the media stream skin if that makes any difference, figured it would be fine since it has the option for programs. I've gotta be missing something really stupid here, any help would be great, thanks!
--working on windows btw.

**Ok, got it, realized that during install i chose to put settings and such in AppData directory, got it working now!!!**

dude i think you should have a look at this bug on the google site
i was having the same issue a while back, but i thought leo fixed it ?

the script is trying to write to "master profile" (/usr/share/xbmc/UserData')
only root can do this... run XBMC as root (not a good idea!!),
or edit launcher so it saves where you can write access -- "special:/profile/" (/home/[user]/.xbmc/userdata/)

Hi,

did anyone get Firefox to work in Launcher, when you just have a minimal Ubuntu installation (Xserver)?

I get Firefox to launch, but it keep being on top of XBMC, and I can't get to focus on the Firefox window...... (grr)

- speed32219 - 2009-07-22

Firefox launcher. I had the same problem and I've been looking for a fix, but as a temp one, hit the \ key either before or right after you hit Firefox. IT will minimize the Xbmc window and bring Firefox to the forefront with keybd and mouse control. After exiting the Firefox app just hit the \ key again to max Xbmc app.

I know it has to be something simple, just can't figure it out.

Thanks man, looks like a good hint. I first played with rights but it didn't help, this sounds good. But can you please explain what you mean. I downloaded Launcher 1.03. Shall I edit launcher_plugin.py? I didn't find any /home/-related paths in it? Huh

Launcher & XBMC Live? - xbmcbubba - 2009-07-22

Does the default install of XBMC Live have enough resources installed to run any applications other than XBMC?

I'm looking to install Firefox, but is there any point trying with a XBMC Live installation? (is there a windowed environment, or appropriate APIs for Firefox to function?)

If so, can anyone give some Linux-newbie tips on firstly how to install Firefox on XBMC Live, and secondly, some tips on how to set-up Launcher to launch Firefox?

I think that this kind of info would be greatly appreciated by a lot of new users, and would set the stage for "self-reliance" form then on!

As an observation, there are very few comprehensive "guides" on the XBMC Live forums. There seems to be an assumption of skill that is usually far beyond the actual audience, based on questions and comments posted. Answers from "experts" also tend toward the cryptic, with almost no background or explanation.

Conversely, I have found that forums related to XBOX hacking, softmods, etc. have extraordinarily detailed guides, filled with photos, screenshots, and background info. Dunno if it's a geeky Linux mindset, but there is a distinct difference! Wink

Thanks.

Hi.. Just to be clear.. Is it possible to start and use firefox with this launcher?? Question is no rocket science, but no one seems to be able to give an answer to this.. Alternative is to start into fluxbox and choose between XBMC or other apps.

But I rather would start apps fromout XBMC..

- cyberpark - 2009-07-24

Yes, it's possible and it "works"

The only problem is that Firefox starts on top of XBMC and you can't change focus to the FireFox window.

I guess this applies to other applications you launch in the same X-server session aswell, and there has to be done something in the Launcher code to fix this bug.

- Dr Gonzo - 2009-07-25

Is it possible for Launcher to load shortcuts rather than exes?

I ask because I've made shortcuts for all my agmes to load instantly through pSX 1.3 without having to go through any menus, just double click and play, and I want to be able to load them from xbmc.

How do I properly setup a Firefox Launcher on Windows ??
