iPad Mini 4 / iOS 14.2 / Catalina / - pixelrogue - 2020-11-16

Hello everyone,

Black screen for Kodi.
Following the instructions below (from this forum) and while there are no errors and commands seemed to have gone through, still getting black screen.

Environment:
• iPad Mini 4 on iOS 14.2
• MacMini on Catalina 10.15.7
• Checkra1n (loader 1.0.1(1)
• Kodi 64-bit 18.9-2 (big boss repo) (tried all version from 17.6+)
• AltServer (no updates available) ~ placing this here as an option. Not used for this particular install of Kodi

---
To fix the black screen please try these steps:
Take your jailbroken device

If it's open, remove Kodi from your multitask

Install NewTerm or any other terminal from your package manager (Cydia or other)

Open your terminal

Enter this text
ldid -S /Applications/Kodi.app/Kodi
 and press enter

Dump Cydia entitlements : enter this text
ldid -e /Applications/Cydia.app/Cydia > /tmp/entitlements.xml
 and press enter

Apply Cydia entitlements on Kodi : enter this text
ldid -S/tmp/entitlements.xml /Applications/Kodi.app/Kodi
 and press enter

Wait until the command ends (the last line on your terminal should ends by "
...mobile$
")

Try to open Kodi

Hi,

As I said in last edit of the https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=358164 post ; it's not needed anymore to play with command lines to fix the black screen issue, just install Kodi-iOS (64-bit) 18.9-2 from the BigBoss repo on Cydia and it should works ;-)

BTW, AltStore does not work to install Kodi yet, see https://github.com/rileytestut/AltSign/pull/1

Understood, read and installed. This was originally what was installed which created a black screen that brought me here for support. Post explains.
AltStore was not yet used....offered as an option.

So basically I followed the instructions to add the source and install 18.9.2 which hit a black screen. Everything I am trying since has been unsuccessful.

I'm not sure to understand what's your problem.

You are currently using 18.9-2 version from BigBoss repo right? And you still have a black screen?

Correct.

Can you post the output of ldid -e /Applications/Kodi.app/Kodi please? (A screenshot is fine if it's easier for you)

Can you remove /var/mobile/Library/Preferences/kodi.log from Filza ; Open Kodi ; Wait a moment with the black screen ; Share the new kodi.log file here?

Your link doesn't point to the log but to the ldid output screenshot.

The Library directory had Kodi (directory), kodi.log and kodi.old.log.
Deleted the kodi.log file. forced quit everything. Started kodi, returned to the directory and there is no new kodi.log file added. Tried this many times.
Directory still shows Kodi (directory), and kodi.old.log. No kodi.log file displaying.

RE: iPad Mini 4 / iOS 14.2 / Catalina / - sy6sy2 - 2020-11-20

Sorry but I am not able to reproduce your issue with the kodi.log file.

This is what I do:
  1. From Filza, delete /var/mobile/Library/Preferences/kodi.log
  2. Open Kodi
  3. Notice the black screen bug
  4. Remove Kodi from multitask
  5. Open Filza, refresh /var/mobile/Library/Preferences folder
  6. Post the /var/mobile/Library/Preferences/kodi.log file

6. Post the /var/mobile/Library/Preferences/kodi.log file

After deleting, this file no longer exists. Yes, followed steps 2-5 multiple times including reboots.
My expectation is that a new kodi.log file would be created, however nothing shows.

RE: iPad Mini 4 / iOS 14.2 / Catalina / - sy6sy2 - 2020-11-20

This is strange, I don't understand and unable to reproduce.
If Kodi does not crash when you launch it but only show a black then the kodi.log file should be created.

Now my guess is that your Kodi app is running in sandboxed mode and your Kodi.log file is somewhere in one of the directory of this folder /var/mobile/Containers/Data/Application/....
