[WINDOWS] WMA (and WMA in WMV) digital audio pass-through to SP/DIF - mdvries - 2008-08-22

Hi,

I have a receiver that according to specifications can decode WMA audio. Now I have some WMV movies in which I assume the audio is in WMA format. Is it possible with XBMC to send such a stream to my receiver just as with DD and DTS?

With Zoomplayer I used to live encode the WMA stream to a DD 5.1 stream so my receiver would play the 5.1 sound of a WMV file. Is something like this maybe possible in XBMC?

Currently XBMC doesn't play sound at all through my receiver for WMV files. DTS, PCM and DD work fine.

Ok, I will eagerly anticipating that one for the future then Wink

One more question:

Do you plan to add digital output of WMA or reencoding wma to DD or both?

I do not know about digital output of WMA but transcoding WMA to AC3 will probably make it into XBMC sooner or later, but it first depends on two things, see:

Feel free to post your comments in those threads Nod

Is there any general restrictions or problems with a passthrough of WMA? It would seem much easier (as a first step) to just passthrough the WMA audio to digital out?

I do not know, but in any case please submit a new feature request for it to our tracking system http://trac.xbmc.org

I can only speak for myself and there're two things:
1) missing equipment for testing (I don't need it because stereo is fine for me)
2) missing knowledge to code it without testing

Patches are welcome Nod
