I posted this in another thread but I just realized there is more traffic on this thread:

I spent a good part of the afternoon troubleshooting my problems with PlayOn (Too many consecutive failed items). I have several xbmc'ed xboxes -- one works fine (Hulu, Netflix, ESPN, etc) and the other always gets "Too many consecutive failed items".

Here's what I found -- If I have "Enable edit and decision lists" in Settings -> Video -> Player enabled (it is disabled by default) then anything from Playon fails. Disabling EDL fixed my problem 100% and is completely reproducible.

If anyone else has run into the "Too many consecutive failed items" please check into this. If it is confirmed, then maybe it needs to go in as a bug report.

(FYI if you're not familiar with EDLs, they really only need to be enabled if you're using PVR recordings with an associated edl file for commercial skipping. XBMC is my front-end for GBPVR which records shows on a NAS).

Again I'd like to hear if this solves anyone else's problem, or if it is already a known issue.

It doesn't make a difference on my setup. Same results w/wo this feature enabled. I am just now starting to troubleshoot but when I can get Netflix content to play, sound is out of sync and video is munged on the bottom of the screen.

If anyone is interested, the log is here. I see 'discontinuity' in the log which doesn't sound good Oo but I am fairly new to XBMC and not sure what it means.

I may just pick up that Roku box. I like Netflix, but the 1080p streaming + last.fm is working perfectly and it's 90% of what I want.

Thanks for the input. So the EDL switch must just be "adding" to the connectivity issues but not specifically breaking anything.

What version of PlayOn are you using? The latest few releases have solved a lot of Netflix issues for me -- using 2.59.3559.49 and it works well from XinXP -> Xbox.

I have been reading this thread and a bunch of others on Google trying to figure out how to get Playon to work on my Original Xbox xbmc. I tried everything from changing the Cache to changing the response time, etc....

This is what I found to work:

I simply used the dvd player instead of Mplayer to play the video!

It works like a charm. Laugh

Now I just want to know two things( and have been unable to learn them from Google):

How do I make dvdplayer the default

and

How do I get a newer version of Mplayer that would work with Playon (I like the interface better)

Anyway, I hope this helps some people. Big Grin

Has anyone tried running VirtualBox on a linux machine to serve this to your linux XMBC? If so, how much of a performance hit was there?

Hello,

I am having no luck playing Netflix and wonder if anyone else is having any luck. Newest version of XBMC on classic xbox.

Windows Vista, Playon says there is nothing wrong with my box. I have no antivirus and Firewall turned off.

Hulu plays fine. Here is the last bit of my log

I discovered that PlayOn does not work for me using the MediaStream skin. I have however used it successfully with the redux of MediaStream and with PM3 SE. I haven't seen this anywhere, so I hope that bit of info helps someone.

Also noted the best combo (so far) with buttons to get the movie to load (esp. netflix) is single click to open, and as soon as the caching and opening window/message disappears, double click again.

I lowered my network cache settings to 0 and it works most of the time. After a few videos it still craps out though.

PlayOn issues on Windows 7? - stonewall - 2009-11-01 18:35

I'm running a 10/25 xbmc Xbox build from The Questor's site, and I just upgraded to Win7 Home Premium (and went through all the SMB share stuff that every one else is going through - I ended up hard coding the IP address for the share).

But now I can't get PlayOn to work. When I select a TV episode in HULU nothing happens. I'm quite confident that PlayOn is running on my server and confirmed that Win7 firewall isn't blocking it.

Not sure if its a XBMC issue, PlayOn issue, or still a win7 issue.

Any help would be appreciated.
